  • Modshack Intake install with pics!

Ok guys here are my photos of my install!

Theres probably heaps of other modshack install threads but oh wells hahaha.

    Stock engine bay:

    Stock airbox:

One of the two screws you need to take off to get stock box out:

Stock inlet pipe with MAF - this stays on, as does the MAF (the MAF needs to be removed from the stock box however via couple screws and clips):

Stock airbox out (note: that black piece of plastic at the bottom is the "base" as mentioned on the Modshack website. This also needs to be removed as when we test fitted with it still in, the intake sat way too high!):

Another shot of where the stock box used to sit and the "base" piece:

    Intake in!!:

Mounting bracket (the bracket is to connect to the screw hole closest to the firewall once the "base" plate has been removed:

I haven't stuck any of the stickers on (about 10 in the box lolz) as I want to leave it as plain as possible hahaha!

    Enjoy!!

now you need to plumb in a cold air feed for it Otherwise very tidy looking.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I dont see what was wrong with the large surface area original aircleaner?

THe induction noise you get from one of these things is orgasmic if you havent heard one.
The warranty goes unchanged because every 15,000kms the stock airbox magically appears!

Definately needs some sort of cold air feed though.

          Baz,

I spoke with Jon McArthur at Burwin about it before I put it on, and he said it will not void warranty as the intake is not changing how the car operates. He said only chips etc would as you are messing with the ECU. Same can be said about how you did your flapper mod buy cutting tubing and stuff.

I even asked if i rocked up to a service with it on would it cause any problems and they said no. As far as i know, the air filter doesnt get touched for a while under standard service schedule anyway. But I might swap over the stock box when i go service anyway.

And yes Tim, the noise is friggen orgasmic!! Even if i don't get huge gains from it, the noise alone is worth the money!!

Congrats on joining the modshack club! Definately a well thought out product.

Personally I'd listen closely to Tim's advice, as swapping back every 15k's is a pretty easy job. Even though we all know a well maintained pod is unlikely to cause any problems, if the poo hits the ol fan big enough, then what some dude at a dealer tells you is fine will go out the window.

It's a grey area for sure, personally I'd keep it as black and white as possible from the warranty provider's perspective.

A pod sounds great on a diesel, so it must sound fab on the V6!

Can I suggest some sort of shield / barrier, to try and keep the cold air from the hot engine? Nice cold air source from the stock inlet, be nice to kind of "force" it into the modshack at speed.

Suck COLD air. Not warm engine bay air.

I may try whip up a heat shield during the christmas break. Also planning on running a cold air pipe from the lower grill opening up to the intake.

I will probs swap the stock box back in for service time hahaha.

The rubber edges, if they are .... can be found at Clark Rubber.

The plactic plate looks thick.. I am thinking of those material that people custom computer cases with, they are generally clear.

I'm thinking of getting some Aluminium sheeting for the shield.

Does anyone know if Bunnings sells Al sheeting?

Plastic is the go, as metal will just absorb heat and defeat the concept to an extent. I guess you could heat shield the alloy.
