    Hi Guys,

I'm very sad to say i have to sell my beloved Golf GT Sport. Only picked it up in August. Car has only done 6000 KMs,

I have been offered a job overseas unfortunately cannot bring my Golf.

I just want to get an idea how much would it fetch on carsales etc.

The car is Graphite Blue GT Sport MY08 May Build, DSG, Sunroof, Leather and Tint.

Still has the brand new car smell!

Let me know what your thought on the price i bought it at $42550. Hoping at least $38k?

    Cheers
    Anthony

Any time that I've sold privately, I've looked at what others are asking and then gone for a bit less. Quite simply if you price at the same level as the others, you'll be lucky to get a nibble.

Is $42,550 the driveaway price of your car when you bought it? if yes, you will need to subtract the stamp duty component as the new owner will need to pay that again. Eg if you sold it for $38k, the new owner will need to pay stamp duty of about $2k. This brings the car to about $40k and they might as well buy a new one. (the stamp duty amount will vary from state to state)

You might need to price it a bit lower to get some interest. You car has basically demo like KMs so find out what demos go for at the dealer and price yours under it.

Also, being at the end of the year, dealers are offering big discounts to move 08 stock so that will reduce the amount you can get for yours also.

One other strategy might be to ask the dealer what price they would buy it off you for and then sell it to a family member or friend for a little more.

Or, hold off, hang onto it at least until you are sure that the overseas job is for you then sell it once you are sure it is what you want to do.

Ive had mates do a fire sale to take a job and move away and not like it, then have to come back and rebuild all their belongings at full whack.

Is your overseas job permanent? If so, how sure secure is in these economic times?

Consider storing your car. If for any reason you need to come back, you'll still have your car. If things turn out well o/s, get a friend or agent to sell it for you.

Excellent, you can store your car in my lock up garage. It'll only cost you $15/week.

Is it a Diesel or ULP, You'll get more for the Diesel.

Personally I'd be scouring every MK5 VW forum I could and try to find a potential GT buyer in Australia, and negotiate a deal.

Just checked back on some old posts and it's a petrol model Logzy. Had a quick look on Carsales and the dealers are asking between $35k and $38k for the 2008 GT TSI no leather or sunroof and between 3,600 and 5,950 k's travelled. No 2008 GT's privately but there's an 07 / MY08 model with an asking price of $30,800, 9,400k's on the clock, leather and parking sensors. Just as an estimate going off these prices I would think Big Man should be able to ask around $35k privately for his with the leather and sunroof options. My .02 cents worth anyways.......... Best of luck with it !! Shame you have to sell though

Me owning a petrol aside, Fuel drop and petrol stations ripping everyone off diesel being about 15c+ dearer than 98RON I would struggle to see the benefit in the diesel (purely from money perspective), I would think current market you'd prob. look at about the same price I would say, but that is if I was buying one....

Will be interested to see how much it goes for.

It's a buyers market out there at the moment and people are getting cars with ridiculous discounts especially if the people are desperate to sell. Second hand cars are really worth a lot less than you think. It obviously also depends on what you're selling and the demand for that model. You're lucky in that the GT has only been around a few years and there are few for sale. But just to give you an idea, I bought my R32 08 6000kms for $49K. The previous owner paid $68k driveaway 6 months earlier. I'd say you could probably get between 33 and 35K for yours. Redbook values it at between 30 and 32K (probs w/o out leather).
