What do you want to put in the passenger seat that won't get in the way during a collision?

I don't advocate putting anything on the passenger seat other than a person. Animals should be strapped in the back and anything else that can't fit in the numerous compartments and door pockets should be in the boot.

if its like bmw's the sensor also is used for the airbag - in which case if you disable it the car will always think there's no one in the seat and not activate the airbag- BAD.

also they are usually more than just a switch so need a specialist circuit with resistors and diodes.

      Best to leave it alone.
had a passat tdi. now mb c class.

Both front air bags deploy no matter what occurs. I'm pretty sure that BMW operate this way as well.

You can turn it off using VCDS/Vagcom or by a heap of other ways.

There's a thread about 5 down from your new one that covers all of this in details. Remember search is your friend and saves you having to ask what has already been covered before.
