Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I had an okay buying experience from Chatswood Classic Cars (CCC) but even better exps from their service dept.

I found VW Brookvale, Hornsby and Five Dock were friendlier - but because the stock that I wanted was at CCC so ended up going back & bought from Margaret. I think there is a guy called Ollie who's quite friendly too if he's still there (I bought 2 yrs ago).

I went to Barlo Mascot and was treated like cr@p as if they didn't believe me could afford a VW. They took a copy of my driving licence but later refused to give me a test drive so I insisted on getting the copy back, ripped it out and walked out of there

Not in Sydney, but problematic VW dealers seem to be widespread.

I have had excellent dealings with Burwin.

A mate and his wife wanted a test drive of an EOS, but were told by Werribee VW that they couldn't have one until AFTER they had paid a deposit (i.e. bought a car). Needless to say they quickly left....

A friend of mine was treated very badly by Barloworld Mascot. He ordered a Sportline Diesel and when it arrived it was a Sportline Petrol that had a compliance plate over 1 1/2 years old. He was in my car the other day and asked what the gizmo was on the ceiling. I said it was the sensor for the alarm. He said that his had factory alarm but had 2 little sensors at either side of the dash. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it clearly isn't factory and they ripped him off over that too.

The factory alarm is only available on the GTI (standard) and the GT Sport as a factory fitted option. All other models of the Golf with alarm have an aftermarket piece of crud.

Why on earth did he take a petrol when he wanted a diesel? How long did he wait? They must have found a similar car elsewhere in the country.

They didn't tell him it was a petrol. He signed and did all the paperwork and when they took him out to the car he saw it was a petrol. Then they did the old 'you've signed now you have to take it'. When he got it home he looked at the compliance plate.

Id also recomend visiting Hornsby, Ben there was a massive help.

I only went to CCC as they had the cable i wanted in stock as a demonstrator and i saved thousands.

How long ago was the purchased?? I reckon he would have a case to take up with the consumers tribunal...there has got to be a cooling off period when he signed but not for the correct product as ordered. The alarm situation was clearly a rip-off

The whole thing was a huge rip off. In the end they gave him some money back. I think he should have dumped the car on the forecourt.

This is how good dealers seperate themselves from the bad. Not hard is it.

I would have simply said - "I paid for a diesel, where is it ?"

I find it hard to believe that any salesman, no matter how bad/desperate, would seriously try this on with anyone, regardless of how easygoing the customer seemed to be. There could be serious repercussions for the salesperson, not limited to loss of job and the danger of bodily damage (some people have a short fuse at times ).

I live in Penrith NSW so I went to my local dealer. Went for a drive with the salesman and was scared ss with the way he was driving. It was a short test and upon return promptly reported him to the dealer principal. I eventually bought a car from them though. Tried to fit the car seat to the centre mount but the mounting point was loose so went to the service dept to get it tightened . They refused to do it because they are not an authorised fitting station. I said the bolt is loose just tighten it . They said no it was not a genuine part. I got out the manual and showed them the picture of the mounting point . After 20min mucking around they finally agreed to tighten it. Can you belive it ?

lol that sounds bad. well when we first went to the vdub dealer at livo the bloke seemed keen to egt rid of the gti as it was a demostrator. So we came back the next day with my golf to get a valuation etc and he wasnt there so we got some other bloke. He didnt seem keen he was totally up himself. We took it for a test drive but before we noticed it was leaking some oil from the gearbox... as usual they are like where what how no your wrong bla bla. Once we took it for the test drive and brought it back my brother reved the engine a little bit to see if theres and problems and how the car responds in neutral etc. The big boss came outside telling him off saying you cant do that bla bla its not your car yet this that you havent bought it yet etc (yet they drove the **** out of it themselves).

Once we went inside the dealer we got was being a and we told him look this is what we are willing to do and he said give me your credit card so i can go to the bosses office and speak to him about it. We were like wtf his going to take our credit card? So we told him no we aint letting you take it, he said its oto show some commitment, sow e said well bring the boss here and well show it to him with us present, he said he cant do that. So we just went home. Bunch of really

I had signed a contract for a 07 Polo GTI at Liverpool that was 'apparently' on the water. After signing the contract, I got a call within a couple of days saying that due to computer problems at the time of the sale (not mentioned to us) the car they thought they had for me was sold already, and could only be offered an 06 build, 07 compliance.

After saying that the original car was fresh off the boat and 07 build and 07 compliance which meant better resale value etc, he then tried to say that resale value was based on compliance plate and would refuse to budge on the price, saying we got a great deal already. We (me and my Dad) were basically treated like idiots for supposedly being 'unreasonable', because I wasn't willing to budge on my colour choice and couldn't accept the change in situation. We got our refund eventually.

However, I have been told that the dealer principal and the sales staff were kicked out late last year and the new mob are better.

Funny that you mention this, THE EXACT same thing happened to me at Penrith...

I put a deposit down for a brand new already landed 08 built and complied 3dr TR GTI. It was supposedly built in Feb 08 and was sitting in a holding yard, so for me to get it, I was looking at a 2 to 3 week period. Same story goes, got a call a couple of days later and the common "oh a glitch in the system, didn't update and tell us that the car had been sold.." So i got my dad's friend who is a solicitor involved, and merely threatened to take them to the ACCC as they were trying to pawn off an 07 built 08 complied RS 3dr GTI on me.. after all the fuss, i ended up with a March 08 built 08 complied 5dr GTI at no extra cost

But yeah, after all of this I'm never dealing with them again....
                                5dr TR GTI - Leather - Tints - 6 Speed - BOOST OOOOH YEAH!!!!
