  • Resonator Delete

Is it illegal to remove the resonator from the exhaust here in NSW? I've been watching some clips on youtube of cars with removed resonators and they sound so nice! the rumble/flutter mmm!!

Granted, the types of cars are very different. This may shed some light on the issue though. Personal experience (which is necxt to none).

Yes, you cannot remove something from the exhaust, whether you get pinged on it or not is a different question entirely.

Technically you may be able to argue that the emissions have not been efected and the sound doesn't exceed the perscribed levels, but AFAIK you can't remove things.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Besides, I know it is wrong to assume, but you have a MKV GTI, why not get a proper system for it. Not a 45 buck, 20 minute job?

Highflow cat, leave your resonator, a decent backbox (Generic or branded (import)) and 2.5" or 3" mild steel piping...increased performance (perhaps debateable), a great deal more legal, and a sportier sound.

Just check with your state laws on the noise level output - if you have it removed by a good exhaust shop, they will have the testing gear in house to make sure its legal before you get caught out!

Legal? what do you mean by "legal? legal is something that cardigan-wearing grannies drive.

I believe noise is good as long as its not over-bearing. (and its safer too - when lane-changing, Ive often heard a motorbike long before ive seen it)

Aslong as it's below the sound limit (89dB I think??) and it has a cat you can do whatever it is you like to your exhaust.
