    2.0 FSI - Where is the Engine Oil Temp Sensor (G8) located?

    Hi all,

    Engine light came on just earlier. Scanned the car and got this code:

    000406 - Engine Oil Temp. Sensor G8
    P0196 - 004 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
    Freeze Frame:
    Fault Status: 00100100
    Fault Priority: 0
    Fault Frequency: 1
    Reset counter: 255
    Mileage: 166924 km
    Time Indication: 0
    Date: 2000.00.00
    Time: 12:55:06


    Freeze Frame:
    RPM: 0 /min
    Load: 0.0 %
    Speed: 0.0 km/h
    Temperature: 17.0 C

    I did some research online and surprisingly what I found wasn't straightforward with people referring to different sensors, some people talking about wiring issues etc.

    Is it the sensor bolted into the bottom of the oil pan?

    I came across posts also mentioning a 2nd oil temp sensor located at the top of the engine or near the oil filter.

    VCDS seems to indicate that the fault sensor is G8 so can someone confirm where it is located?
