Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Just how much can you fit in the Jetta boot?

Just back from a trip to the Hunter Valley vineyards. 3 people plus luggage.....oh and a little of the local produce we picked up along the way!

    The final destination!

    How much

When looking at buying a Jetta, boot capacity was quoted as being more than current Commodore, Falcon or 380.

Bought a Passat which is bigger again
Granite Passat sedan TDI (125kw), DSG, beige leather
Candy White Polo 6R, 66TDI, DSG, no options

IIRC correctly the Octavia wagon is bigger again (but remember, it is not about how big it is, but how useful it is ) I like the extra height in the Octy.
2017 MY18 Golf R 7.5 Wolfsburg wagon (boring white) delivered 21 Sep 2017, 2008 Octavia vRS wagon 2.0 TFSI 6M (bright yellow), 2006 T5 Transporter van 2.5 TDI 6M (gone but not forgotten).

Your joking, the wagons boot is bigger than the sedan!? :-p Sorry, I have to pick on that, talk about stating the bleeding obvious!

The problem I have found with the Jetta boot (problem/not a problem) is the 'holes' to get stuff in the boot arent overly big. Clearly very good for wine tho!

Great post and big effort on the packing. I can't wait to get my Jetta. Hope I can find enough wineries to fill the boot !

          Great cabinets for the wine.

Sorry dd, I obviously need to clarify for you. I was referring to the "covered" volume UNDER The luggage cover, ie not including the extra space that all wagons have available above the luggage cover.

I have just looked up the various heights (again, to the luggage cover, not the roof), it is interesting to see the differences:

                  Jetta 505mm
                  Passat Sedan 409mm
                  Passat wagon 463mm (V6 AWD 442mm)
                  Octavia Wagon 570mm

The Passat obviously has a wider/longer but shallower load space.

Note that the Octy height is with a spare that is rated for full load AND full speed (useful for country driving), what do the Jetta and Passat have for a spare (I know the Golf GTI has a speed and load restricted "Noddy" spare tyre) ?

That's right Louis, just a little, some to put down for a few years and some to drink now, we eat at a lot of BYO restaurants and like to have a good selection to choose from!

                    There were 3 suitcases actually!

Was very impressed how the car handled the task with 3 adults plus baggage for the weekend, some groceries, by my reckoning approximately 150KG of wine. Coming home at freeway speeds, i.e. not hanging around, combined with stop start from the end of the freeway, the trip computer showed 8.1 L/100KM when I arrived home. (Before you all jump on me, I know the trip computer is not 100% accurate but indicative only).

The only time I really felt the load was pulling up at the lights at the end of the freeway, with cold brakes she tended to keep going so had to stand on them a bit. Those who know the F3 know it has some very hilly sections, maintained cruising speed up those hills effortlessly.

I never cease to be impressed by this car.

                    Cheers

                    George

I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding wineries to fill the boot! LOL. Something Australia has in abundance and many, many are world class. I'm also sure you will love the Jetta as I do.

Wine cabinet is the only way to go but we met up with some people in the Hunter and were invited to visit their home. Their wine cabinet is a whole room with one glass wall (temperature controlled) that puts my 165 bottle cabinet to shame. Capacity of the room was something like 1,500 bottles.......envious!

                      Cheers

Just goes to show that they should quote the boot capacity in bottles of wine.

I found you could fit $3000 worth into the back of a Kluger (but you needed to drink it all before you realised how ugly the car was).
