Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Windows and mirror functions backwards

Hi all, so a couple of days ago my 2009 BKD Golf Pacific developed an amusing problem. The driver's window was going down when the passenger window switch was pushed up (and vice versa), the passenger window was going down when the driver's window switch was pushed up (and vice versa), the electric mirrors were the same (with the addition that up and down translated to left and right (for the opposite mirror of course, haha).

Today it took a more serious turn when the rear doors no longer lock and unlock.

Also, the footwell and door lights haven't worked for a while and the mirror down in reverse function is the same.

Have disconnected the battery for 10 mins and reconnected, no change.

I'm thinking comfort module is to blame, or potentially some corrosion in it's plug or earth connection. Thoughts?

If I was to get a secondhand module from the wrecker, would it need to be coded or is it a straight plug and play.

Any comments / suggestions would be most welcome, especially if there are certain earth points I should be checking / cleaning.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestion. nothing has happened out of the ordinary to cause damage, and also why would this affect the rear doors inability to now lock?

I swapped the comfort module today, no chnage other than now the fob wont unlock the other doors. Does the replacement module have to be coded to the car?

There is a trick to recode the key fob, you can do it without a cable, just need 2 keys.

Video is for Mk4, but I've done it on a Mk5 Jetta.

as for broken wires, they break in the door hinge area. Pull the boot and check them out.

The wiring between the door and the body is rubbish. Actually all the wiring in these are rubbish. If you peel back the insulation around the wiring loom you will find cracked broken and shorting wires. The insulation goes brittle, cracks and falls off.
