Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIDEO ColourMFA full installation VW Golf Mk5 GTI. ColorMFA Golf Mk5 R32, TDI & 2.0L

Hey all - finally am proud to show that ColourMFA is an option for Mk5 owners (half screen FIS LCD preferred).

If your Golf Mk5 instrument cluster LCD needs repair, starting to fade or has died then a replacment is in need. If a replacement's required why not upgrade? ColourMFA is that perfect upgrade that really enhances the capability of your instrument cluster and it's all controled via the OEM steering wheel buttons.

This installation video guide shows you everything you'll need to know to mod your Golf Mk5 cluster to get ColorMFA running (compatible in Golf Mk5 2.0L GTI or R32 - this will also work in Jetta of the same generation). It's important to have a half-screen or no screen clsuter to start off with as it's not ideal to be controlling and selecting the comfort menu options that are active in the full FIS clusters. ColourMFA's the ultimate Golf Mk5 upgrade for those with half screen FIS!

Here's a quick rundown of the ColourMFA features:
    - current speed
    - average speed
    - travel time
    - distance traveled
    - remaining fuel in liters
    - boost pressure (for turbocharged engines)
    - engine temperature
    - inlet temperature
    - oil temperature
    - on-board network voltage
    - engine torque
    - current consumption
    - average consumption
    - oil level (in mm)

    Diagnostics:
    - reading data by groups
    - error reading
    - erasing errors
    - viewing error codes
    - support for KW1281 and KWP2000 protocols (K-Line and CAN)
    - plotting on the screen of graphs according to the data in the current group

... plus way way WAY more than this list.

DIY Install video coming soon. Meantime here are some pics of the install process.

    - VW Golf mk5 instrument cluster teardown
    - Installing ColourMFA motherboard and LCD

This looks interesting! You mention half height is preferred but your pics demo a full height unit?

      Keen to see more...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Yeah i love this mod as it gives SO much to the dash + instant diagnostics... it's really powerful. This video shows some of the functionality available in a real live demo of someone using it for the first time. Super easy to pick up the controls.

yeah I had this unit on hand to demo the installation in however it's still best to start off with the half heigh dispkay clusters as they don't have all the comfort functions built in. You don't want to be controlling the comfort menus and changing settings while controlling colourmfa at the same time. I haven't found an option to remove comfort functions from mk5 clusters just yet. ALthough more playing around with coding and adaptations may remedy this issue. Install video coming soon
