R32 rear tyre wear

Sorry to drag up an old one, But i just had an experience relevant to this thread. I have driven a MkV R32 since new with 16000Ks on it now. I just had to get a RWC which showed up 2 faults - windscreen (stone chip since very early days) and two front tyres. The wear was on the inside edges, and was only just outside legal limits according to the dealer mechanic, and the local tyre store (2nd opinion). Had a long "chat" with the service dept about why tyres would wear like that so quickly. In the end, their advice was wheel alignment issues. when the worn Contis were changed over for Dunlop Sport Max, the alignment was checked and found to be 3-4mm toe out. Their advice was to get alignment checked every 6 months or so, which sounds like a good idea to me. Tyres were not rotated at my 15,000k service (done at same dealership), which may (or may not) have made a difference. The service tech that went though th eissue with me was pretty helpful with advice, and had apparantly worked at a tyre store for quite a while. The irony was when he said, dont worry, it could be worse, you could drive a Volvo XC90, they are DEADLY on tyres, no matter what you do!!. My wife drives an XC90

The problem with my car was the rear toe in setting was way greater than it should have been. Coupled with a bit of negative camber, and we end up with a set of rears that lasted way less than they should.MY08 R32, DSG, Sunroof, RNS510
