Good bye GTI Hello Golf R
-
I'm on my second Gletscher Eis.
This will make for an interesting topic at the VW Pavillion on Friday. I'm sure Jutta will be pleased that her dealer network is held in such high esteem.
I need another drink...
Anyone else going to look at the Pirelli GTI? I reckon I may roll under the 18s to check the leveller pivotI will absolutely p myself if it is hyper extended.

OK, if the bi-xenons are not an issue, according to VGA, then why does the Mk-6 GTI with xenons have a blinker arrangement over the top of it? (see attached)
Also, I noticed recently when parking near a wall in an underground carpark that both my lights shine up and out to the sides at the same angels. Shouldn't the right one be more to the centre and down a bit? I can understand now why I am being constantly flashed, in the day too.
I'm having the lights checked next week so some of the comments here have been useful.Last edited by Man In Black (MIB); 12-10-2008, 02:55 PM.Man In Black (MIB)

That these 3 factors are why the headlight is different and not because idiots flash you.
And did you also note that these are adaptive headlights which will corner with the car, hence why they look like as they pivot horizontally.
If you take a look at your headlights you will notice that they are projector headlights and the cutoff is about halfway down the lense, fitting a "blinker" is going to do exactly nothing.

I don't have projector lights in the Polo GTI, but they came standard in my last car(2004 Barina SRi), and I got flashed all of the time, and I only had the standard 55w globes on the Low Beam projectors, but had 75w globes in the High Beams, so I would just flash them back. That learns them quickly!!"If can't get behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them..."

Yes, as a Mk-5 owner I do realise the significance and difference of the Mk-6, thank you. My point was that it is different and has a small cover over the part of the lens that would shine into oncoming cars. Perhaps it isn't a local issue and VW have been aware of it all along and have only been able to address it in a new design. I shall try to be more direct next time.Man In Black (MIB)

You have a projector lense, when on low beam you will see a sharp cutoff about midway down the lense where the low beam comes out.
Can you explain to me why a tiny little "cover" over the top part of the lense is going to do exactly when the low beam which is the "issue" only uses the bottom half.
There is no problem with the VW design nor with any of the other factory xenon and bi-xenon systems, the problem occurs due to crap roads in Australia and the low education level of many motorists who wouldn't know what a dipstick was if it was facing them in the mirror.website: www.my-gti.com

I think the photo of mk6 headlights is taken at a different perspective which makes it looks like there is a "cover" over the top of the lights.sigpic

They will do exactly what the current ones do and annoy stupid people. We'll be here in 3-4 years time having the same discussions on the MK6 "Why do people flash me all the time".website: www.my-gti.com

Just to weigh in on this issue, there may be a valid reason for adjustment.
Our headlights are meant to be adjusted such that the passenger side is slightly higher (to illuminate the side of the road).
Because VW do both LHD and RHD markets, there is a chance that your headlights have been adjusted for LHD markets, meaning that your right side is slightly higher. (Plenty of posts done in Australian forums as well as UK about this issue)
Should this have been picked up at PDC? Well yes.
Are dealers perfect? Far from it.
Best bet is to take it in or mention it during service. If it's all ok, then you know it's not you. If they have to adjust it, then after that, you know it's not you.
I had to get mine adjusted, before I did my headlights shone into the cabin of the car in front. Afterwards, I noticed the beam was lower and the frequency of me getting flashed significantly reduced.
Moral of the story? If in doubt, get it checked

If ya want a quick & easy solution... just get an allen key and do a couple of notches of the adjustment on the xenon's rear housing (white arrows). I haven't had any car flashing high-beam ever since2006 MY07 Jetta 2.0 TFSI Reflex Silver, DSG, Sunroof, Bi-Xenon, Leather

The focal points on both left and right headlights should be exactly aligned.
I have an image on my website here that shows the beam pattern for the halogens on the MKV Golf (see the image "Comparative measurement in the Golf V headlamp") and how it goes to the side (shows right hand side as it's europe but it's the exact opposite for us). This also applies to the Bi-Xenons but a different spread and range of course.website: www.my-gti.com
