  • Speedo Error R32

As I was driving onthe Eastern freeway most of the traffic was passing me??

I turned on my Navman and my speed was about 94kph.
    My speedo was reading 100kph.
I sped up until Nav was 100kph, speedo reads 107.
I checked again with gps in phone and got same error. Has anyone else found this? Did VW fix it for you?

    Check out this post:

and this one for how to make your climate control show your speed (maybe)

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

i notice that u have a 08 model, if your climate control doesn't have an econ button, press the AC button instead.

btw all cars have speedo that reads lower than actual speed.

Thanks, I would rather read the speedo. Actuall not all cars have speedos that read low. I am in the Auto business and see new cars quite a lot. We check speedos as part of our development work.

          Cheers Bazzle.

Reading the links posted here and from other sites this seems to be a common but annoying problem.
I know I can mentally judge my real speed or drive off the gps but I didnt buy the car to do that. I have always had accurate speedos and it is nice to know when you are doing 100 that is what it is. It is up to me then if I want to slow etc.
The real annoying part is when Im doing 100 (and by the look of it other VW owners too) and believe Im doing 100 and a line of cars is behind wanting to overtake.

I will investigate my options with VW.

No it doesn't, the odometer is always accurate, VW have put an offset on the speedo so that they meet UNECE 39/00 (Rev 1) which requires the speedo to deliberately under-read. The link that I posted has all the information including copies of the Volkswagen TSB's that explain this.

The eeprom map from the cluster? the needle sweep map? Read the link that I posted that has all the information on how to do this with a VCDS/Vagcom cable in about 5 minutes and also has copies of the VW TSB's on why/how to fix this.

Yeah my speedo is out by about the same as well. Just get to know how far out it is at various speeds and then you'll be right.

Yeah, I too just find it easier, and more rewarding, to speed that bit extra all the time!

                          Frikkin' Stoopid, 'ain't it?

They have laws that make our odos deadly accurate, but speedos?
Hell no! Deliberately INaccurate in fact.
What, do we thank lawyers and our love for litigation for this?

Is this so that the courts can claim that the only accurate speed measuring devices are those operated by the local tax collectors - sorry, Safety Officers?

Sorry, mini rant over now. I'll go have a lie down

                            Yes it does.
If you do a search in google you will come up with alot of info regarding this including info from the VWvortex forums stating that it DOES affect the odometer.
Even Rostech have stated that they cannot fix this as it is programmed into the instrument cluster in an area that they cannot change.

It seems that some cars are affected and others are not, my speedo and odometer appear to be correct after the change and I've just done 1500km and the odometer appears to be correct after the trip. I'll do some more testing but at this stage it appears to correct.

As far as I can see it's only some US models that have this problem.
