Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wheel Repair results!

Ok i finally christened the car!, my fault i admit it no females involved, was parking with my reading glasses on and competely misjudged the gutter anyway this was the end result nothing to bad but was completely pi$$ed at myself. Anyway that was Sunday night so Monday i rang around for quotes everything from $395 to 120ish. I finally spoke to a very articulate fella named John who is an owner operator of united wheel repairs who ensured me he could fix it on the car. So he came this morning and 45mins later this was the result.

    Before

    During

    After

Note the last phot taken when it was still wet, 30mins later it was touch dry and completely blended. It even has the 2 coats of clear.

    Cheers

Looking good mate. They did a good job there. Now you just got to get some nice tyre shine on that rubber.

lol yeah i know!!! it came to $160 very reasonable IMHO. One mob wanted $395 and 2 weeks!!!!. He was a great bloke and he explained the GTI wheels are qite hard to do as VW apparently use a plastic based undercoat which makes it a little harder to match but he can do shadow chrome etc no problems.

        Cheers

Anyone know of someone similar in Melbourne - I'm in need of something like that too. That's a very good result at a decent price!

Bit late on the thread but ...........

Bet you were worried before the paint dried.

And I wish I had come across this guy earlier - did the same thing on the factory 18's I've got on my GTi - low profile tyres and gutters just do not mix.

I'll keep these guys in mind for my next parking error ( its a lot easier parking a nissan patrol than a GTi with low profile tyres - nudge a gutter and it just doesn;t matter )

John is coming around to my place on monday to fix one of my wheels which has got some major gutter rash on it, Luckily it wasn't me who was driving it, it was my boss, so he is going to pay for it to get fixed.
