  • Mk V GTI now or wait for Mk VI....?

    Hi All,
    I'm not sure if this is the right section, mods please move if not...
    I am finally in a position to buy a GTI!!! I test drove a DSG version yesterday and it was fantastic.
    But... I am aware that the Mk VI Golf (standard models) will likely be available early next year and that there are no more Mk V GTIs (non Pirelli) being made other than those already on order.
    So... do I wait for the Mk VI GTI or get the Mk V now...??
    Any idea when we could expect the Mk VI GIT??
    Any advice much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    D

    I think the Mk6 will be 2010? Was talking to a VW tech the other day and he was under the impression the scirocco might be on its way to OZ, if you only need 2 doors.

    Love the look of the Mk6. It's definately on the list when my polo is due for trade in in a couple of yrs.

          + initial supply problem (the wait for MKV GTI initially was as long as 9 months for some) and hardly any discount. it would take until 2011 to get a reasonable deal;

          + demand for new cars is pretty flat now so you can get a pretty good deal;

          hence i bought 1 last month instead of waiting for Golf 6 (bread & butter Golf doesn't interest me).

            Grab a MK5 ASAP as they are no longer being made.
            The Mk6 will probably be a better car but the mk5 is still good and the delivery of the mk6 is not confirmed.
            You may have to wait 18 months or longer.

            Reflash the Mk5 and you will be impressed.

              Plus there are rumours that VW won't bring the Golf VI to OZ because of poor sales of the V

                Are you serious?

                I've seen more MkV running around than any other VW car (or maybe I'm just noticing them more?), perhaps, if it is true, it is more to do with poor margins than sales.

                The MkV is a great car - if you're genuinely needing a car, go for it. The wait will be long for a decent MkVI.

                  I'll try and dig up the article. It mentioned sales of the Golf hadn't been as high as projected and low profit margins had only recently been boosted by decent sales of Eos & Jettas. It was something along those lines.

                  Couldnt find specific article, but this one refers to poor exchange rate for a reason they may not bring it to Oz. I personally think they will.

                    That was a false rumour, the Golf VI is coming to Australia especially as it makes up a substantial amount of VW's business.

                        they'll continue bringing the golf into oz. vw have learnt from the production inefficiencies with the mkv, and will see greater profit margins with the mkvi.

                        YTD (aug), they are averaging 1112 golf sales per month - 12% growth on 2007 sales.

                        vw isn't going to be walking away from those numbers.

                        plus, if you've noticed, vw are pushing the brand pretty hard with the product features booklet found in latest wheels/motor/top gear mags, along with the R series range.

                          I was in the same position and wondering whether to wait until the MKV1 but couldn't guarantee how long I had to wait. I waited 5 wks for my GTI and that was pretty good compared to some who have waited for months. I was just lucky otherwise I would have had to wait at least 3 mths.

                          I have no regrets and it's nice to know I have one of the last 08/MY09 models. If the MKVI came out tomorrow I wouldn't have any regrets on getting the MKV as I love it so much.

                            particular with the price you pay compared to how much a MKVI GTI will cost initially.

                            i have no regret too.
