Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah I say get a MkV now as well. At least you'll have some fun, and you'll be able to trade it in and have even more fun when the MkVl comes out!

Took one of my customers for a spin in the MKV today, 'cause he's a bit of an enthusiast.

He still hasn't closed his eyes

Mate, get yourself one now, while you can. The MKVI will be a long time coming as has been mentioned, and there will be no early discounts available (other than the Corporate pricing).

The GTI-R AWD 200kw version will be replacing the R32 and will slot into the R32 price bracket, I'm tipping.

        Just get a MkV.

Its a nice mature car now with most of the bugs ironed out.

In saying that I must book mine in for a going over soon because at 3400km there's a few bumps and knocks from the front suspension, a piece of the interior has broken (rubberised plastic has split), has developed a hesitation under acceleration in the lower gears AND for the second time the DSG seems to have lost calibration and started doing dumb gearchanges, "riding" the clutch when at a stop and taking what I believe to be too long to engage reverse.

Hasn't left me on the side of the road though so I'm not too upset. Still a brilliant vehicle and makes me feel good at the end of a ****ty day at work!

Get a MKV now, I'm sure there will be massive waiting list for the MKVI GTI when it comes out here. Or you can always get the sciroco if that comes out first

                  good choice
                  u won't regret it
the mkv with dsg is a great car
i've loved every minute of my last two months with my car
u'll have at least two years before the mkIV GTI will be out
and then give it a year or so to get rid of its bugs
so by then it'll be time to upgrade anyway!
                  enjoy ur car...lucky u only have to wait 2weeks, i waited 5months!

finally got my 3dr 08 CW DSG GTI.....

if you read various motoring magazines the MKV was expensive to build and VW was hoping the MKV would continue to 2010 however they have not sold as many as they would have hoped (hard to believe given the initial demand) so the MK6 is built with less expensive components. The MKV GTi was long time coming so they put a lot into it to break back into the hot hatch market. Regardless of the MK6 coming out the MKV is an impressive car that is hard to fault....

Hmm I'd wait at least for the Paris Motor Show (14 days). VW have announced they will formally launch the Golf VI range. Now there's rumers that they will announce the 2009 GTI as well. Then you can decide between a MkV with little wait. A Pirelli with a bit of a wait. Or a MkVI, with 12 months wait.

Pirelli wasn't an option... vetoed by both my wife (what is so wrong with yellow stitching!!!) and the dealer ("no corporate rate for you on the Pirelli...").
12 months is too long to wait for the Mk VI....
                        Mk V here I come!!!

I had thoughts of waiting for VI however a couple of test drives made me think why wait....for who knows how long till it arrives in OZ.
Picked mine up last friday and am over the moon, wow why did i wait so long. What a great car
