Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Auto on headlights

The Auto on headlight setting on my Golf, is a bit weird. It regularly turns the headlights on in broad daylight, and keeps them on. Other times it's getting dark due to stormy weather etc, and it won't turn them on. However driving into an underground carpark, always makes them turn on. I can't work out what degree of light triggers it. I have cleaned the windscreen where the sensor is, but makes no difference. Can the sensors be replaced easily? or is it something else? common issue?

Tracing problems can be diffcult in these with out it ( actually tracing problems can be difficult even if you do have it )

        probably obvious things but ...

        HAs the windscreen been replaced?

Is the windscreen clean? The sensor is up the top in the center.

Are there chips in the glass near the sensor?

A waste of time is what it is. If you drive at highway speed the headlights turn on, but highway speed is 140km/h+ so never gonna happen legally in Australia.
A value like 85km/h would make more sense here. I've not heard of any way to change this.
