If its got less than 30,000km, expect it to. (to a degree, mabye yours is a bit odd)

You can't bed rings in very well with synthetic oil. VW expect it to do this. God knows why.

Mine uses bugger all around town but after a 700km trip the other week with some madness overtaking runs (always fun when you nail the go pedal and once you get past you look down and you're doing a dollar seventy...whoops...must get out of habbit of nailing go pedal the whole time to overtake safely ) its choping a bit. Not a litre, I stuck mabye 500ml in it the other day to top it up after the long run. Has 3100km on it now.

Mine uses about a litre every 5,000, a litre every 1,000 is excessive by any definition.

That is correct, unless you have slow leak somewhere....

I'm assuming your use of the car is normal, you are not running the car on a racetrack or doing anything else abnormal with the car.

If it were my car I would tell the dealer politely but firmly that I was not prepared to accept that 1 litre every 1,000 KM is normal and that I would take the matter further if they are not prepared to rectify the situation. Make it clear the onus is on them to rectify it even if that means involving VWA.

I'd be fairly sure you could demonstrate quite easily that your oil consumption is abnormal by polling other users on this site.

                  Cheers

                    Oh dear......

I've come over from Subaru. Theyhad issues a few years back & it was normal for them to use 1L/1000 when they were new but that scaled back a bit after 5000km & was generally minimal (1L/5000-10,000) once they were past 20,000km.

Did you baby it on run-in or drive normal/vigorous? Anecdotally those that took it easy had the worst problems as the rings & bores glazed up because of full-synth oil & low ring tension.

Has the 1L/1000 been verified by the dealer? Subaru would put you on "oil watch" which involved returning to the dealer to have the oil dumped & measured (dipsticks were all over the shop) as they wouldn't take the owners word for it. 1L/1000 consumption in a vehicle with 15,000+km would get you a rebuild at Subaru.

I'd also ask the dealer if they are going to compensate you for the $200 worth of oil you are buying between scheduled services.

Start putting your concerns to the dealer in writing and CC VW Aus.

Reading all of this im glad that i didnt listen to the salesman who said that i better take it easy till the 1st service..... i wonder what makes him say that....? Hmmmm oh yea i think he still havent cleaned his undies from the original test drive that i did with him...

Well ill check my oil level at around 1k and see if it needs any topping up...

1L/1000 has been confirmed with the dealer and I will be taking it back once the light comes on again (at their request). Each time it needs oil - I take it to them and they top it up so im not paying for a thing.

Car was driven "well" out of the box. I did about 200 k's after I picked it up in Canberra and drove it fairly hard and then drove it back to Melbourne the next day. Changing speeds, took it up to about 160kph, tried not to cruise too long on any one speed.

Luckily, I bought the car off a good friend in Canberra who also happens to be an influence with VGA.

I'm not too concerned at this point with 2 years still on my warranty. If a re-build is necessary then so be it.

                          Thanks for the advice guys.

I wouldn't settle for rebuild but new engine all together....

I have not used one drop of oil in mine since new, not one drop. Its now done 13600km.

Once again, you need to drive these things hard to run them in.!!!!
