I'd have to say that at the FPV track day you get with the car, I felt like I was at a ZZ top lookalike conference.....
The best dealer story I have heard is our GM, who owns several companies including the medical one I work for. He wanted a particular Merc, one of the huge ones, and wandered in to a dealer in his golf gear. They didn't approach him, so he walked out. About 200m down the road he notices the Maserati dealer, walks in, is greeted straight away, sees a car he likes, and once he's checked his golf clubs fit in the boot, bought it on the spot without anything further. He's worth $150 mill apparently!
He told me the story himself when we played golf at a conference once, and said the best bit was driving it back down to the Merc dealer later that day and saying hello.

I had a great sales guy when I bought my R. Got to test drive both the GTI and R32 back to back before making a decision. When I went back the following week (in my riced up Civic (RIP), jeans, sneakers etc!) to sign the paperwork one of the other sales guys in the yard who didn't know me came over and started asking me if I'm just looking or if was really serious about buying a car because if I'm not, I'll just be wasting everyone's time. I let him ramble on a bit and eventually he asks me whether I am going to buy anything or not. When I said I've already bought a R32 and was there to tie up the paperwork his jaw literally dropped and he starts seriously sucking up about whether he could assist with finance, insurance etc. In the nicest possible way I told him where he could go and then went inside and signed paperwork with my bloke as the other sales guy looked on...
If you read "The millionare next door" you'll get an interesting insight that the majority of all deca millionares in the USA, that is worth more than 10 mill, dress in cheap clothes, drive 10 year or older cars, and typically have a lot of money in the bank because they don't spend it lightly!
In sales, even at the upper end I'm playing in, you would be foolish to judge a book by it's cover so to speak!
Funnily enough R32, one of the younger surgeons I look after loves to dress like a rapper, pants down, the whole deal. Looks very weird. He recently bought his first Porsche, and I can only imagine the trouble he had at first getting a test drive!
