Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Had my first official accident this afternoon... totally spewing.

Hit the back of a huge land cruiser, fortunately they had a big towbar so no dmg to their car....

but my baby has a big hole in the front of the car now....

The tow bar penetrated through the glossy grill surround into the matt plastic behind it.... it also punctured some foamy stuff behind that.

Didnt hammer the radiator or anything around the engine thank god.

the front bar is a little looser now though. my mates where saying it looks like a couple of grand of dmg as its a euro car... what do u guys think?

Doesn't look too bad and may only require a new grille and re affixing the bumper, there are some "how to" guides on the golfmkv forum on how to remove and fit the front bumper, could be some clips are broken.

How about some photos of the damaged area up close, we don't need any more of you standing there holding the damage part

      Ouch!

What a hassle! Never fun having the toys damaged. Fortunately though it only looks superficial so it should be an easy fix (probably cost a few $$ though!)

Look on the bright side...there's plenty of info available around the place (DIY's and such) so you might be able to do a fair bit of the work yourself. And I'm sure there are guys around your area who could give you some advice when you get stuck. Anyway, all the best with it.

On the upside, you do get to order a new front centre undrilled and hopefully without the huge plate holder. A slimline plate gets lost on those things.
I'd be VERY surprised if that is 'a couple of grand'.

That section on a GTI is only $140 USD from oempl.us.

I wouldn't be surprised if he pays around $200 from this from the parts counter, worth ringing a few of them as the price can vary.

Take a look at the how to guides as well for how the bumped comes off and see what clips may be damaged and get them at the same time. The whole job is supposed to take less then an hour to take it off and put it back on.

They're the size of a house and handle and brake like one as well.

I'd be claiming that the GT Sport's front calipers failed to try and save face

                        hey guys,

just called Denlo to get a quote on the parts and they quoted $530 for the grille $41 for the foam absorber Yikes!!

the weird thing was they quoted $350.00 for painting as well?

does this seem right to you?
