Certainly busy in the manual, but I only find it a pain when you want to cruise, auto style, that is be lazy.
    I've no complaints otherwise.

okay, so I found almost exactly the same as my car at another dealer by making some phone calls, but it's ex-demo.

Does the VW stock acquisition system (the transfer-from-another-dealer-to-you) work for these cars too, or does it only work for new vehicles in stock?

ring your stealer tomorrow, surely you don't have to take a model that is not what was ordered. I have done 5k now with DSG box, it is great and as Cogdoc said the manual keeps you busy

I won't be taking it. I've already told them that I won't take it. The question now is whether I have to wait a week or so, or even less, to get one from within the country, or whether it's a new one from SA.

If I can get the demo from the other dealer then that's got me set - I could pick it up ASAP.

I'm pretty sure that it's only a new unallocated car but I'm sure the dealers can sort something out. How much are they going to knock off the demo? You would want to get at least 3k after the stuffup or more depending on the kilometers. The GT's and GTI's cop a flogging from cold as demo cars so this is something to factor in if you plan to keep the car for a while.

Okay. I'm not sure how much they're giving me off the car if its a demo. Right now I'm waiting to hear back from them (tomorrow morning). The dealer principal and fleet manager were banging their heads together yesterday to sort something out, so once I speak to the lease company, I'll be talking to them and then working it out.

If I have to take the demo, I'll be pushing for 3 - 5k off and then some extras. If they make me wait for a new car, I'll be wanting something pretty serious (RNS510 anyone ), but we'll see how we go.

Thanks for the advice about the flogging. I figured an ex-demo would have been worked pretty hard, but ultimately its a well built car, so I'm not hugely worried.

the wear on the tyres alone would probably be 500$ worth!

Are you entitled to a new car discount?

I considered a red demo R32 that was registered for 1 day, unfortunately I was not entitled to a corporate discount because the car is considered 'used' so even though it had miles on the clock, it would have cost me significantly more than a brand new one.

Hopefully the dealer will be bending over backwards to assist but it really depends on the dealer. I was screwed by Austral in Brisbane who wanted me to cough up another $5000+ after delays on my car and me having to find a replacement and then after dropping my trade in to them (the final payment was due) they waited a week before trying to get more out of me.

I was close to being willing to take a demo because of the delays, bs from the dealer and the loss of my car but fortunately ended up screwing up that contract and going to another dealer (highway auto) who bent over backwards to help me and arranged to extend my car for a month so I could keep driving.

The problem that I had was that the cars were thrashed within moments of leaving the dealer with a cold engine, not only was the salesman doing it they encouraged you to do it. And with so few kms on them I found this a bit disconcerting. Also the wear to the brakes and so on have to be factored in and as I plan to keep the car for a while I just couldn't bear to buy one and then wonder if "xyz" problem was because it was a demo etc.

At this stage of the game I would not be thinking clearly. A new car was ordered and if it was red then I would properly take blue just to get it over with, a demo instead of new, well that would fix the problem. No it wouldn't.
                      I ordered a new red car and that's what I want !!!.
Its the dealers job to supply your order, without passing the buck on to a fictitious person who mucked up the order. I realize that it would be hard to wait for the correct car but in the long run IMO I would wait.

Well, I heard back this morning. They've got a brand spanker coming off the boat this morning that they're going to give to me.

Unfortunately it may be a week or two till I get it, but I played the "but I sold me car!" line and the dealer principal is gunna call me back and let me know if they've got a loaner I can use until I get mine.

If you have not sold your car already, why would you be dishonest?

I can understand your frustration about the stuff-up, but being dishonest about your circumstance to obtain a loan car is wrong, and your conscience will haunt you. (Not to mention that it is actually a criminal offense to obtain goods by deception.)

Especially if you crash the loaner, and become liable for the $2000 (or more) excess that usually accompanies them.

Where does he say that he hasn't sold his car!!!

That's a bit OTT isn't it, there is no mention that he hasn't actually sold his car and I really really doubt that you could say that it's a criminal offence even if he had not sold his car. The point is that he is without a car because of what appears to be a dealer stuff up.

"I played the "but I sold me car!" line" makes it sound like he's playing a line to me, dunno about you. My understanding of Aussie colloquialism is that "playing a line" means bending the truth.

No-one "plans" to crash a loan car, but good intentions don't prevent accidents. I'm sure you know this, it's why we have insurance.

I'm merely pointing out that "playing a line" to get a loaner that isn't really needed could end up being a costly mistake.
