Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

What's the cost of a replacement fuel pump?

    Any options other than original?

My car died at work, wouldn't crank. Mechanic down the road thinks it's the fuel pump as he can't hear it priming.

He can't look at it until Monday.

If it is the fuel pump what should I expect to pay, including labour?

fiy my 06 gti fuel pump part number is 1K0919051DB priced at 389.40aud from denlo
also from research the bosch 69944 should be compatible, you might want to double check though
i've purchased one off aliexpress before, seems to have the same problem as some aftermarket pumps where you have to keep it above 1/4 tank or it won't be able to draw petrol up properly

      Thanks Vinny

Got it fixed today. $940 all up for a Bosch unit.

I'm sure I overpaid but the car wouldn't start and the mechanics were 50m away.

I would have taken it to my regular VW specialist but they are 30km away.

nice, let me know how the pump goes when you cycle through the entire tank(especially under 1/4)
did they provide a part number on the invoice by chance?

What happened when using the aftermarket pump below 1/4?

Misfire on heavy accelaration or idle?

Unfortunately no part number on invoice. I'll keep you updated.

always had a problem while moving, it'd either feel like it's misfiring or cutout eventually in the timeframe of about 5-10 seconds
it'd work okay if i let it prime for a few seconds before restarting to limp it to the servo

took me a while to figure it out the cause though and as it turns out it's fairly common with aftermarket pumps

I didn't run it down all the way, perhaps that may have caused the original to fail in the first place.

I let it run down about a notch or 2 below the 1/4 mark but before the low fuel warning light came on. No issues at idle or WOT.
