Ends up working out to be about $70 including postage. And in the case of UGR32, multiple filters can be purchased to further reduce the amount spent.

Considering the average K&N panel filter retails for $120AU, I think saving $30-$50 on each item is worth the 10 day wait.

Why would you need more than one? They've got a lifetime warranty.

UGR32 wanted more that one, not me... I'd personally just get the one and the filter charger kit, and redo it every 10-15k...

i can't believe this thread has stirred up so much mud... or kicked up so much dust, so to speak.

please instead of trying to justify your own purchasing decisions, could we have more factual information? more to the point, i've never known arguments based on heresay to improve anyones understanding.

i've mentioned before about my FRAM pod (great big bugger of a thing, same construction as k&n, cotton layers between metallic mesh) provided me with noticable power decrease and lower maximum boost, compared with the standard paper filter...

im pretty certain that if VW thought they could safely offer a better filter than the paper one, they would.... its fairly easy to see that any warranty claim for engine parts is going to cost far more than ensuring every car comes off the line with a quality air filter.

i did bother to read all of the test data that was linked, and found it quite decisive and clear.

if you are unable to read the data or understand it, i'm sure some of the enlightened members of the forum will help, providing you are willing to ask for it.

more to the point, it should be obvious that nomatter what filter was tested (whether for GM duramax diesel or VW golf) it is irrelevant, since it is the filter media being tested - simple experimental theory.

Another one of these silly Mk5 R32 topics going around and around in circles!
Someone please stop it so I can jump off. (getting dizzy here)
UGR32, you make up your own mind on all these silly questions please.
              Cheers, Andrew

Surely the test would be easy? Stick one on, get it dyno'ed. Take it off and dyno it again?????
