You may also see that all of their tests were independently backed up...or did you miss reading that too?
We know how much the Yanks love to sue each other when they claim one thing, and get the other...What do you think would happen here?
I'm asking you Yom, did you send your MAF off to get tested by K&N when it failed, or did you just accept it?

I found a site that sells Apexi panel air filters but they don't appear to stock them for VW, maybe you could email them and ask if you like. Here's the link -
The genuine Apexi Power intake air filter for your Japanese vehicle is a direct replacement for your stock air filter.

It also stated that the filters used in the test were donated. so how can you be sure all variables are consistant and can offer an accurate comparison?

Anyway I didnt see any comparisons between the VW Golf panel filter and other performance filters so it doesnt have anything to do with this thread. The filters used in the test were for a GM Duramax diesel... wateva the hell that is..

So you seek to discredit a massive company such as K&N through the use of "bob is the oil guy"? A website that has contacts to yahoo and hotmail emails? One thing they love to tell us at uni, and in high school for that matter; don't trust everything you read on the internet - and your info and your sources for it would be some of what i do not believe.

Forgot to mention; did you not notice the websites you posted as sources of info were supported by oil companies OTHER than K&N??? Go figure they want to discredit them aye! hahaha.

Just received an answer back from an Apexi distributor, they do not make panel filters for the Golf, just Jap cars. You can only put a pod in.

                Might just stick with K&N.

Bugger...I thought that may be the way though.

Well I've got about 10 thou kms on a dry Apexi Pod now ( e-bay USA ), and can confirm it is filtering exceptionally well. The inlet plumbing post pod is pristine, no fine dust and minimal dirt in the oil film that still passes the Provent. I can blow a fair bit of dust and stuff out of it about every 5000k. Remember with a more exposed and higher flowing pod, comes more dirt and higher maintainence ( generally ).

In my humble opinion, it's the 90 degree lid outlet, the MAF grid ( if present ) and the leaf screen below the panel filter that are the biggest obvious restrictions. From both a common sense approach, and actually putting in a K&N panel myself, the difference between OEM and a K&N panel dropin was difficult to notice. A straight through POD gave an obvious response improvement, and I firmly believe it's the gridless, straight through route that is the main effect here. Modshack list the grid as a 22% restriction, and mention the 90 degree lid outlet.

"The OEM filter in the VW is xcellent and would do a far, far better job of filtering than a K&N ever would"

I'd like to see that one proven!

Do POD filters void warranty ?

Is your POD filter enclosed ?

Depends on dealer. I've had a chat with mine, and they let me know where the "line" seems to be at the moment with VW and hotted up GTI's etc. I can't see a pod voiding your stereo's warranty etc. but if warranty is a priority, well, leave it stock.

Modshack housing, so very insulated from engine heat, but still open a bit at front, so potentially "could" be defected by main roads here in QLD. I plan a front cover that draws from the front opening, but that's one of many "to-do's" at the moment.

Try some of the American sites, I'm guessing the motors are the same but don't count on it just yet:

Shop over 10,000 VW & Audi parts in stock for same-day shipment. Use our extensive online catalog to find the OEM and Genuine parts you need fast.

Cheap! Buy two and a filtercharger kit to get the minimum $100 order, postage would be around $30-$40, still cheaper than if you were to locally source it...

Don't think that's right, Branko. I paid $115 Aus. for mine and I know others who have got them for $95 in Aus.
