  • Bora 4Motion diff oil?

As per subject, can I just put regular (LSD?) gear oil in the rear diff?
Any special 'VW spec' oil requirement?

I have a slight whine at around 60 kph - does sound like a (fairly slight) diff whine to me
Don't know the history of oil changes back there but car has done 120,000 so it's probably due...

    Cheers,

    Keith

Does anyone know the exact haldex fluid that's needed? I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper to get it from Supercheap / Repco / Autobarn etc than a dealer.
Bora has gone ;( Custom sub box and beige floor mats to suit for sale.

It should be in your Owners Manual as to the correct Viscosity of the oil.

So you buy VWs and refuse to put the Correct fluids in... right...

OK, Its for a Audi TT Quattro, but the drive train is essentially the same from the rear of the engine...

I believe that this thread seems to have gotten a little off track. Correct me if I'm wrong. The post says 'diff' oil which is different from the Haldex fluid. At around 130,00k's my Bora 4 Mo started making some quite alarming noises at the rear when it was hot and you were doing U turns etc. It was ok driving in a straight line except for a bit of a whine at highway speeds. At first I was worried about it being the Haldex unit but after changing the fluid and filter and 2 visits to the local VW stealer to locate the problem we decided to change the oil in the diff.

The oil change has cured the diff of all noises, whines etc. The service manager who I have known for around 40 years told me that there he was not aware of any VW service advice about changing the oil in the diff. He also told me that changing the diff oil is not in the service schedule.

My car has now done 155,000k's with no diff noises. Therefore I would recommend that you change the diff oil however as to you original question I'm sorry I can't help with the specification of the oil to use.

Sorry a boringly long post with little help.

Mr Charisma was asking about the Haldex....

In the case of the rear diff, you may want to look at a 75W-90 LSD Diff oil. Castrol, Penrite and BP all spring to mind.

Dude I was asking what kind of oil it was. If they are gunna charge what they charge for their spark plugs and general items, I would rather get the same thing from somewhere else for like half the price and get it done by my mechanic who will probably do a better job.

true.. sorry a little cranky.. and not wanting to see anyone ruin their cars..

ive been down this fluids thing before with my Dubs

i destroyed a box by having non VW Fluid put in it.. was a whole new box after that..

The Way i see it is

$100.00 extra at this end is generally a saving of $1000.00 at the other end..

i have preference to buying the expensive and correct stuff especially seeing as i own a R32 now and i would rather not have to fork out over 15,000 dollars for a Rear end rebuild (ive seen it happen here in a S3 incorrect fluid etc)

The Rear Diff as far as im away uses the same fluid as the gearbox..

the Haldex oil i think goes in the transferbox (i think) (im not sure) i just pay people to do this over complicated servicing
