  • New tail lights for Bora

Has anyone put 'aftermarket' rear tail lights on their Bora?
I've looked at a few Jetta 'aftermarket' ones - the thing is with the Bora (Mine's a '02 4Motion) is that the rear end looks a little old fashioned to my eyes.

These are the general type I'm thinking of something from slickcar.com .

Anyone got hold of anything like this in Australia or got some on their Bora? - Pics?

    Cheers,

    Keith

If you want to make your bora look like a civic... you are 110% on the right track...

If you intend on doing it, I would only use Hella made lights. The others just don't have the fit and finish.

Hella make a few after market options and they aren't stupidly priced. I put hella magic colors on my golf and the fit is like OEM.

Look fair call - so what do you think of the rear end of the latest Jetta for example?

Just after a more modern look...

i love the new jetta.. but you have to understand that the shape of the new is matched to the design of the lights.

our boras are a more fatter ass look, and need more plain lights...

          its all symetrics and geometry.

You're going have trouble getting that road worthey unless you add on a reverse light somewhere on the car and use the reverse light on the cluster as an indicator. Last time I checked, red indicators were against the law in Aust.

Wish they weren't though.. it would make it a hell of a lot easier and they would look better if they weren't.

              Quality

I would advise you don't go down this track. I purchased japanese angel eye headlights and received them only to immediatly have them sent back. They were of the poorest quality.

On the other hand i purchased Hella smoked rear taillights and have never regreted it. They are such great quality and perfect fitment. I have now learnt always buy quality products for your car.

Do modified tail lights affect the insurance? Because the first thing the insurer asked me when someone hit me from behind was
"Does the rear of your car have any modifications?"

Depends. As long as the lights are legal and you've told your insurance company. I don't see there being any sort of problem with modifying your lights. As with any modifications as long as you let you're insurer know (and they're happy with it) and it's legal, there should be no problems.

Oh and to the OP, I'd definitely stick with Hella as well. I forgot who but there was a good VAG parts site where you could choose your car and see what was available. They had Hella lights, it was quite a good site, it's been listed on here before.

That is why i decided to go with hella, i knew they would have more of a chance of meeting australian standards than any other aftermarket light. I was also told by my insurer that taillights were not a modification.

What would that site be? I wouldn't mind a reasonably priced set of dark Hella tail lights to blend into my car.. (it's green).

Heh... If I could remember I'd tell you. Have a search around the site for parts websites. I had a quick look but couldn't find it. It's definitely been on here before. Check all the different sections. Sorry can't help you anymore. Memory full of holes...

Yep I agree. After seeing that site i've decided I want to do my Bora up.

So i'm officially starting the Maca Bora donation fund.
