Good to see you're still working away on the Bora. It's way too good to leave in the garage.

First update in 4 years
Sooooo where do i start
Start of 2017 i smashed another sump and me being an impatient and stupid 18 year old i thought getting it home would be the best move, leak didnt look too bad but little did i know this wouldnt be the case and i had a bottom end knock by the time i got home.
so i went and bought a 2 door mk3 with a vr6 swap, off my 2 best mates.
heres a link to that build if you are interested ( VR6 swapped, Voomeran flares and Lip etc etc )
then at the start of 2020 i thought it was time to move on from the golf and finish what i started with the Bora.
i then moved house and had to move the Bora there, so filled her up with oil and attempted to drive it to my new place. Threw a rod through the block lol.
fast forward a little more and we here.
Bought a BDE 2.8 24v for $400 ( shouldve bought a 3.2 or 3.6 but theres a stupid tax on those motors here in aus and to find a decent one that doesnt need too much work they are around 2k+ )
so here is the aftermath of the AUE 24v

20200905_164045 by Bradley Edwards-Millgate, on Flickr
Proceeded to pull the AUE out

20200906_144444 by Bradley Edwards-Millgate, on Flickr
Now onto the BDE "build"
Came out of another bora with around 100,000kms
unfortunatley after pulling it apart found that the motor didnt have good service history and lots of carbon build up.

20200529_172126 by Bradley Edwards-Millgate, on Flickr
20200529_171049 by Bradley Edwards-Millgate, on Flickr
then found that the head needed a rebuild and clean

So sent the head away and got it back fresh and new
pretty much everything was cleaned and linished to get rid of the deep scratches in the cap lobes and caps.
New Valve stem seals etc etc
New headgasket
VRS kit
etc etc etc

Dont mind all the paint marker, im a mechanic by trade and its just habit for following torque patterns
IMG_20200828_124845_764 by Bradley Edwards-Millgate, on Flickr
Cleaned up the block and sprayed it black to give it a freshen up
New waterpump bolted in as well

So thats really all the photos i have for now.
I spent aout 30min tonight on finishing the timing chains to find out that im missing the upper chain guide for the VVT bridge or cam bridge whatever you wanna call it.
soooooo need to track that down now. 1 step forward 3 steps back

awesome thanks so much man !! will get into it asap, maybe after I'm back from byron bay coz i don't wanna detail the car then drive it 1000kms hahaOriginally posted by beale187 View PostI use the Mothers Ultimate Detailing Kit.
Wash it to remove any loose dirt, bugs etc...
Rub it with a Clay Bar Kit (this will remove anything contaminants embedding in the paint, DO NOT use it on your wheel arches where the paint is lifting!)
Polish (removes scuffs and stains)
Micro Polish (acts as a filler to remove light scratches and swirls)
Lastly, Carnauba Wax to give it a protective coat.
Normally takes me a whole day but when you run your hands on over the paint afterwards it feels like glass and lasts months.
Meguiars do a similiar kit that's also excellent.

Overall it was a great day and getting the car out there was fun !!!
reminded us of Race Wars from Fast n the furious
parking the car up for show then going and watching the races, was just awesome !!
will update again shortly with some more photos from a city shoot and then some again in my back yard lol
but for now the car was defected for the front wheels being too wide for the guards, he over looked everything else including the car being waaaaaay under 100mm hight regulations, lots and lots of other things, cop was actually a good bloke, got the defect cleared and the car is back to its normal state
here are a few random shots from the weekend
oh and the car finally hit 135,000kms today !!!

til next time
happy scraping
