Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Cost to replace alternator belt - bora 4 motion

    Hi,

My belt has broken and needs replacing. How much is a reasonable price to supply and fit? I'm in Melbourne inner NE

    Thanks in advance

Not sure about the Bora but on most cars it's a 10 minute job, at worst 30 minutes, it's an easy job to do. Add to that the price of a new belt and you've got a rough idea of the cost.

Or get someone here to help, 6 pack would pay for the labour and you buy the belt.

    Cheers

    Paul

The belt will be the bulk of it cost wise.
Just need to push back the tensioner and place belt over pulleys 10min job easy.
Id do it for free just to have someone to talk **** about cars for a bit.

Alternator belt? If you mean serpentine belt it's about $70 in Sydney, pick it up from most auto stores, it's a 6 rib double sided belt. It's a bit of a crap thing as you need to remove your washer bottle and a few other parts and lines to get acess to it. If you got a mechanic to do it it would take them maybe 40 mins labour if they know what they are doing

Wow sounds more complicated than the Golf then, heaps of room on the GTI no need to remove anything.
