Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Ambient temp sensor

    Hi All,

The temperature reading that is on the dash on my golf mk4 2.0L sport is not displaying correctly. It's 33C in sydney today and its showing 18C!

    How do I fix this?

I have the climatronic version of A/C.

So now when I turn the aircond to the lowest possible temp it's not cold...

    Thanks,
    K.

Thanks. I wiggled the front fog lamp type grill on passenger side and it's working again. Hmmm

ok got the sensor working again.

Now when the weather is really hot outside, eg 30C+ then my aircond is not cold. Even though set to LO or even 18C.

Do these symptoms suggest a low gas level, or something else?

Check that your fans are working. Whenever the AC is on both fans should be running.
Low gas level means a leak. It is more likely a bad compressor, or field coil. Does the compressor engage ?

Get a pressure test, a lot of mobile guys will test and quote for free.

Thanks. New to this stuff. Are the fans easy to locate? How do I know if the compressor engages? Also if it's bad compressor or field coil how much do these set me back to fix?

Can you recommend me any mobile guys to check pressure? I'm in Sydney

            Thanks.
