  • 4Motion Spark Plugs

I'm after new plugs for my stock 2001 Bora 4Motion.

What is the common choice for standard street driving?

    Are my choices:
    -Bosch FGR 8 KQE
    or
    -NGK BKR5EKUP

    or any others?

    Twin / single (quad?) electrode?

By the way, I'll need to buy a slim socket to get these fellas out - anyone know what size socket I'll need?

What is the dealer price? (planning to buy O/S but just after a comparison)

Man I have a lot of questions...

    Cheers,
    Keith

For reference the NGK BKR5EKUP is a platinum version of the NGK BKR5EKU

I didn't look at the platinum version when I got my new plugs, but the normal NGK is a group 6 plugs and can be had for about $12 - 15 from Autobarn, Supercheap and the like. Put in the a VW box and The Denlo Group wanted $39.05 for each plug

If you haven't already, check these guys out:
OE, OEM & Genuine replacement parts for European cars. Your online source for VW, Audi, BMW, MINI, Mercedes, Porsche, Saab & Volvo parts since 1995.

They want US$5.79 for the stock or US$12.96 for the platinum.

I have ordered lots of part from them and with 4 day shipping from New York to Sydney, I can't complain at all. Only thing being you have to order a few things to make it worth while.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Are you sure about the NGK part number? The one you said is for the 12V VR6 found in the MK3 Golf VR6. The plugs for the MK4 24V VR6 (Bora 4motion) are NGK PZFR5D11. You can get them here:

I'm in need of new plugs too so if you see a better deal let me know.

Can anyone else confirm if the 12V VR6 plugs can be used on the 24V VR6? I have a set of platinum plugs for my old Golf VR6 in the garage, would be good to know if they can be used in my Bora 4motion.

Yeah look I am not sure about the part number so they may well be for the 12valve

I thought the Aus. Bora 4motion was similar to the US Jetta VR6 (GTI, GLX?)? maybe not?

When I get my spark plug socket i'll pull the suckers out and take a look !!

        Cheers,

        Keith

I have pulled the p[lugs on mine and they look very different to the MK3 VR6 plugs. The US Jetta early MK4 (pre02) came with the old 12v engine, later models got the 24v one that we got.

Hi Sukebe thanks for the link, I am looking to get me some new NGK plugs from MJM, just wondering if anybody else wants to add to my order. I am getting the PZFR5D11 plugs as I have a 02build/03reg Bora.

Works out to about AU$70 for 6 plugs + AU$40 delivery, I called Repco today, $25 each!!

            Cheers,
            Dave

$40 for delivery!! That is ridiculous. The shipping on my Haldex controller was $30, and the postage sticker on the box was $12.15. I wasnt bothered being over charged for shipping on a $900 item, but $40 for plugs is ludicrous. It will cost them less than $10. Still cheaper than buying here though

After I pulled the plugs out of my Bora I found they were in fact PZFR5D-11 type (with VW / Audi logo on them also)
Interestingly the 3 angled toward the back were more worn than the other 3?
Also 1 was loose which was causing my bad misfire.

Anyway, ordered 6 plugs, a serpentine belt and an oil filter from foreigncarpartsonline.com.
Total cost landed to my door around $170, probably about what the plugs alone would cost here... (I think the multi-rib belt is probably over $100 at the dealer and plugs about $40 each, not sure about the oil filter)??

Anyway, they've arrived and will be going in soon!

                Cheers,

                Keith

Check out GermanAutoParts for plugs, I just ordered a full set for my 2L 8V MK3 and their top of the range ones were very well priced, think about 6$ each for quad electrode Bosh ones

I have purchased parts from USA for Jackaroo and Mazda 121, for years, and I have no idea where you get the idea it's a hassle???

                      Isuzu VSS - $AU660.00, $US50.00
                      Isuzu O2 sensor - $AU640, $US57.00
Isuzu Timing Belt kit, water pump, serpentine belt, auto filter kit - $AU?????, $US260
                      Mazda water temp sensor - $AU132.00, $US18.00

Freight = quite expensive but really irrelevant, delivery faster than the proverbial speeding bullet with USPS tracking.

It's so easy, you don't even need to get off your bum !!

Now that our dollar has turned to crap, it's a lot less tempting to go that way, but always worth a price check

True, and have you noticed it sometimes seems quicker to get stuff from overseas than it is for some local companies to get a part up from Melbourne to Canberra, for instance.

Ha ill have to keep my eyes open as everyone I have delt with in the past have been a pain ( sports stores etc not just car goods ) with things going missing and what not from overseas. I have been taking note of recommended suppliers though.

I got charged nearly $240.00 for spark plugs for the 4mo from Garry Cricks when it was serviced. I bought my last set from Supercheap when they had a sale. Cost me just under $108.00. They were exactly the same NGK plug.
