Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 02M 6mt clutch pedal stuck to floor

    Hi all,

Had an issue yesterday morning where I got in the car and the clutch pedal was depressed not allowing me to pull it out of gear. I popped it up and everything has been working fine since but now I'm worried it may crap itself.
Has anyone had this issue before or is it a common issue? What can be done to remedy it?

    Cheers,
    Nick

Yes the pedals break and drop to the floor. Metal tab has to be welded back on.

Also don't rule out failure of the slave and master cylinders.

The pedal itself had been welded by previous owner and it's back to the normal feel so I think I can rule that out.

My suspicions were slave initially. Is it something I should have addressed right away or will it die a slow death giving me time to save some extra coin?

          It's usually a quick death.

Just hope that it's the master cylinder, not the slave, as I'm pretty sure the slave will be a concentric unit, inside the bellhousing of the gearbox.

Ugh yeah box out job if it's the slave.
Anyone have any ideas on what/how to check what the actual issue is?

Don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere if it packs it in.

this probably not much help but i'll share for what its worth...

it sounds like a similar thing that happened to me in my 2010 s3 (same gearbox i think?) but it was during a happy laps run. i changed from 2nd to 3rd as far as i can remember and the clutch pedal didn't spring back up. i pulled it back up by hooking my toes underneath...

it was very strange as it behaved fine for the rest of the session and never happened again since. originally i was pretty worried too but eventually forgot about it until now...

not sure if its the same issue as you describe as you said it was like that when you got in the car?
