Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Coil Packs keep failing?

In the last year, I've had 4 coil packs go on my BDE V6 Bora.

The rocker cover gasket was leaking and oil was getting into the spark plug wells, so I had that along with the plug seals replaced, but still have coil packs die on different cylinders.

Any thoughts on what the culprit could be? Faulty leads/harness?

VW didn't thoroughly clean out the plug wells when they replaced the rocker cover gasket, so there is still some dried residue left over on the walls and a little bit where the spark plug seats... maybe this could be it? I'll be speaking with them to get the situation rectified as it really should have been cleaned out when the had the cover removed.

    Cheers

it's recommended that all coil packs are replaced at the same time, not just the ones that fail

not familiar with V6 boras but check if you have a ignition amp/output stage on your airbox?
