  • EOI for Custom-Code software

Hi there MK4 people and others that have flashable ECUs.

Since opening up in the business sales sub-forum last week, I have had a fair amount of interest in Custom-Code software/products. Mainly Bora 4-motions.

I have been talking with 'goodfella' and he suggested setting up a group buy. I would probably fly over to Sydney, one Friday afternoon to carry it out.

I haven't made a firm decision on the price structure yet. Obviously, I'll have to make it worth your whiles. The current price with C-Cs 30% discount offer is $980.

So to gauge interest, if you would please add your names and I'll update this top post as we go. I'll leave it running until next Friday.

    Cheers

    Gavin

    As discussed, I'm keen...

10% gain for under $1k...sounds good to me!

Does the GB only apply to guys in Sydney?? I would definitely get on board if a GB were able to bring down the price a bit, and I were able to get that price when I visit Adelaide

couple of questions, may as well post them here so others can benefit from the answers too.

        1) how much for the code for my gt tdi? (the 170hp model)
        2) how much to modify the code in the future with the addition of aftermarket air filter and exhaust?

        thanks gavin.

          sukebe,
I wasn't trying to upset anyone outside Sydney, it was just where the interest was. If you come to Adelaide, you'll be looked after.

          Mischa,
I believe I need to buy a different interface to do your TDI. If you could get your ECU number for me, it'll be easy to confirm that. I'll be doing that, after I have made back my investment, on the one to do the petrol models.

Pricing would be comparable with the petrol models. Upgrading to Phase 2 isn't something I am planning on offering, the process isn't overly complicated but is time consuming. The time difference between here and the UK being an issue. As C-C rewrite the code and send it back, that would mean working on the car in the evening.

This post isn't to bag Powerchips however, I tried to chip a 2000 passat 1.8T 2 years ago. I could read the ECU but not flash it. Eventually, I managed to read the code and send it to C-C for them to look at. It wasn't std but didn't request any extra boost. The guy had done a before run on a dyno which produced a couple of KWs more than my then std Audi A3.

It turned out that the previous owner had paid a fair bit of cash to have a Powerchip installed. This was on an encryption board that had been soldered into the ECU. C-C had to ship me a preflashed chip to install on the encryption board. This did the trick and I had one happy customer.

He was very surprised to learn that the car had already been chipped, as you just would never have known. I had been out with him to check the car out, logging the airflow and boost and never noticed anything.

I can't see how there would be anything wrong with the chip, the car ran fine. I didn't replace anything else on the car, so I have to assume it was poor code??

Tough to make any money on a flash and a trip to Perth. I can definitely help you out if you are OK with shipping me your ECU.

I would include you in the group buy.

If anyone is looking at getting a remap, I would recommend trying Custom Code. Very competitive price at the moment with the discount.

I got my Bora 4motion remapped over the weekend, and after a little time letting the car adapt to the new map, it really opened up the lungs of my car. Previously, it pulled fairly well from about 2.5k to 4k but then kind of faded towards the redline. Now it pulls nicely all the way to redline. Not a massive difference given it is NA, but mid-gear acceleration is greater and far more 'useable'. On the way back to Melbourne today I was tagging along behind an early WRX on overtaking. I had to hold back in 3rd and 4th behind him, then when I overtook him I was pulling away. I even managed to stick with a 350Z for a while, until he got a bit too silly with too-tight overtaking.

Gavin is a top bloke too - just make sure he takes you for a spin in his A3 I didn't have time to go for a ride, but I reckon it would be a real white-knuckle time

HEy gavin.. I am curious and don't exactly get the concept. So you have software/hardware to basically rewrite the ECU for power ?

how is this compared to aftermarket chipping ?

SOAVR6, a remap is changing software in the ECU, 'chipping' is changing the ECU chip. They essentially do the same thing (ie change the software that controls the electronics in the car). All MKIV and MKV cars will get 'reflashed/remapped', older cars (like my old VR6 Golf) need a different chip soldered in. Reflashing via the VAGCOM port is far less invasive than changing a chip, and also has other benefits such as checking for error codes at the same time as the reflash.
