ECS Timing Belt Kits

Hi guys. Are the ECS assembled ultimate timing belt kits as good as the OEM ones listed on their sight.
Massive price difference, but I am happy to pay extra if the parts are better?
Also anyone try the Gates racing timing belts ones?
Car is coming up to 7 years since changing belt, and I am looking at replacing everything (hence ultimate kit)

I have a racing belt on my Polo. Not convinced that it's needed, good to talk about at the meets is all.

Be aware that the AGU wasn't a US engine and that there are 2 tensioner rollers for the engine based on the engine number.

I can get a belt kit from Imparts for $300-330 with a standard black belt, that's a water pump, tensioner roller, hyd damper and belt.

Thanks Gav. Any other bits worth replacing while the donk's apart. I will probably get a new thermostat, but any other accessory belts etc worth replacing, even for piece of mind?
Also how important is the metal impellor water pump with our cars.

I don't go to much with replacing stuff that's not broken. So I have never changed a stat, that wasn't already bad. Same goes for the belts, inspect every service and replace when they need it.

The waterpumps in all 3 of my 1.8ts are plastic. If you change them on time with the belt, I don't expect that you'll have one break on you.

I would advise against using metal impellor water pumps, the tolerances between the block and the pump are very tight. When/if the bearings fail in the water pump the impellor will contact the block, with the plastic unit it will snap and the belt will run as normal just the engine temp will come up. If you use the metal unit, it can damage the block itself or possibly jam up and jump the belt.

Yep. Perfectly good reason why Volkswagen insist on using plastic.

If you treat it as a consumable and replace it every time you do the belt you won't have any issues.

Looking to replace my timing belt as well. Was also looking at buying the Ultimate kit from ECS, but shipping costs make it not much less than taking it to a shop.

I have an account, if you walk in the door they will probably sell you one. Over the phone you will most likely get knocked back.

I have used plenty without and problems. They supply the trade, so it's not crap.

Most of what Imparts sell is bought direct from the suppliers that manufacture parts for VAG.

Belt would be Opti-Belt, and the pulleys would be from INA. The same stuff you usually find in genuine packaging.
