    Yeah, take a sparkplug out and see if it's wet with fuel. or remove the FPR and flick the key super quick, with a rag over the top to catch the petrol.

    Then check for a spark. Are you reusing the old leads and coilpack?

      Not sure what the FPR is :/ yer the original leads and coilpack are on and the engine came with new spark plugs.

          I don't fully understand what you mean by the FPR removal trick, I don't have as much of an idea about cars as I'd like to, I'm literally learning everything off this swap so I don't know all these parts and what they do etc

            If you remove the FPR or disconnect a fuel line. Then flick the key, you can confirm that you have fuel in the fuel rail.

            It's not good enough to see fuel there without the engine cranking. The ECU triggers the fuel pump when the engine is turning, this is a safety feature, where the fuel pump isn't powered if the engine stalls, preventing a broken line from spewing fuel after an accident.

              Ah ok I see what you're saying, so pull out the FPR itself and cover the hole it came out of with a rag or something and if the rag gets petrol on it then there's fuel pumping up to the injectors? And by flicking the key you mean try starting it and let it try kick over then check where the FPR was? Does the fuel pump from the tank, through that black filter/canister between the coolant reservoir and wiper fluid reservoir then into the injectors?

                Yes, fuel from the tank only goes through pipes to the rail, then the FPR controls the pressure, hence the name. Anything not injected returns through the other line back to the tank.

                The black box is the fuel evap canister.

                A tiny flick of the key should be plenty to see fuel. Just don't break the FPR.

                  Pulled off the fuel regulator and there's definitely fuel in there.
                  It starts for up to about 3 seconds then cuts out. Any chance there's a way of the immobiliser needing to be reset or anything to register the new engine?

                    If you are using the same key, ECU and instruments, no.

                    This is why it's so important to have access to VCDS. A scan would take you to the problem.

                            Here she is, needs a bit of a tidy up but it's on the way. For now saving for some treats from ECS for some coilovers and tie rods to begin with then find some new wide deep dishes more than likely with some low profile tyres
