After last weeks VWW fundraiser and the deteriorating quality of facebook groups, I've vowed to return to this page at least weekly.
Since my last post the R32 has been turned into a R34 thanks to Ian's tarmac built engine, we tested her out with the bluewater E85 set up but it appeared yo have some serious ping issues, after removing injectors and swapping ECU's out it ended up being a fuel pump issue which was replaced, not an E85 set up issue. Still unsure how the E85 sitting in a tank for long periods between drives will affect fuel quality, I've heard E85 is hygroscopic and tanks should be kept full to reduce risk of water entering, but my concern is sometimes it's months between drives, how low will my octane be...i usually keep 20L of 98 in the tank and top up each drive to keep the fuel fresh.
Unfortunately adult life/new home renovations has got in the way of pushing the NA build to it's limits, by christmas this year i'll get the injectors back in and continue the E85 trials to see how much we can push out of this ripper engine. Have been looking at ITB's but don't think I can justify the cost for the performance gains. Previous ownder stated 197awkw on their dyno, i'm yet to see anything close to this, dyno was completed with very old fuel but not old enough to have such a difference, need to look further into timing etc.
Little project waiting for me and a free rainy weekend, purchased a colour MFA display to replace the aging/fading factory unit, can't wait, inbuilt diagnostics and engine information displays.
I have a set of 18z im hoping to restore, Admittingly, not because the R32 brakes are inadequate, more for the wank factor haha
And a set of BBS RC302's that need some love when I get a chance
Can't believe I haven't read this thread before now, gotta love a thread bump
Great write up Swainey look forward to seeing more mate.
Where did you source the Colour MFA? I found a site that sold them I think in Russia, but just going through their website was hard enough let alone buying it!
