Your right they are fantastic cars, I just had a sit in one today and I loved it. The seats and interior was great, plus in black it looks outstanding. Wasn't the best condition example I must say but brilliant car nonetheless.

Its next on my list of vehicles to own

no offense taken... i admit they take a little getting used to driving.. specially the long dash that they have... but everyone has their own likes and dislikes and we wouldn't part with ours for anything.

Forgive me if I am wrong but I believed the Beetle RSI was the R32 motor...

Bora V6 4motion is a winner. Pity you couldnt jump on the group buy for the haldex controllers but probably to late for you now anyway.

Bora 4motions are good cars, just dont think that you will be able to mod it on the cheap as they are very difficult to get more out of... unless you supercharge or turbo in which case its going to cost you an easy 10k. Better off buying an R32.

V6 Bora suffered a lot of depreciation with the Jetta release.

I'm almost 100% sure that the bettle turbo was DBW like the polo.

Yeah thats true, but it also comes to one's personal situation. Under my circumstances I'm really not earning anywhere near enough to buy an R32, Bora sure, thats 20k (8-9k from sale of my car) or so, as opposed to the minimum 35k investment (26-27 leftk ) for the R32.
I'd have to save continuously for about 18 months for the R32, as opposed to about June or July (6 months) for the 4motion. Could you imagine saving up a year and a half's work for a car at the age of 19? Its really not worth it, I love the car and I turned 19 on Friday anyway, I can't expect too much at my age, a Bora is a pretty good car for a 19 yo methinks

And as for performance, I mean going from an 11 second - 100 car to a 7 second to 100 car is a rather dramatic increase in speed. I really don't need anything quicker for the time being, and if I wanted a bit more oomph I could always change the cams and do some chip tuning for a bit of dough, bringing up about 30-40 hp at the crank i.e r32 spec. But I'd most probably be happy with the car's performance as is. Also they're not the most popular cars as well, its always different when you see a modified Bora in this part of the globe.

Oh yeah and the haldex controllers are tasty items, pity that group buy couldn't have been in 6 months

Maybe, but it doesn't have VVT or the Ko3s - It's an Mk4 golf in a different shell - Same chasis, suspension, engines, gearboxes, lots of interior etc.

I've seen some really nice beetle cabriolets around, you can't compare a cabrio, let alone a 1.8t beetle to a 1.6l, its like comparing a GL mk3 to a VR6, you just can't.
I never used to like the cabrio's but after some of the few adventurous individuals took their cars beyond stock, thats definately done it for me.

They look hot in that pale pastel blue, definately the best colour in the beetle cab!

I went from a golf 3 2slOw to a v6 bora and i couldnt be happier. The bora is in a different league IMO, youll be more than happy with your upgrade i believe. However i would be lying if i said that i wouldnt like a little more kick.. I have explored some turbo and supercharger possibilities and they all seem to lead down the same $8k+ path

                            Haha Turbo group buy anyone?

Yeah, I realised that as well 200hp in a 1500kg car realy isn't that much. Also consider changes the cams(4 in total) and doing some chip tuning with a decent exhaust and air intake should provide a reasonable gain, I wouldn't exactly know how much but i'm guessing maybe around the 35-50hp mark. But that would cost close to 5k, for a 20-25% gain and that isn't all that much...

TBH I'd just go for a decent exhasut a nice set of wheels and a drop in the suspension, it doesn't have to be particularily fast but definately has to look good, and the bora 4motion is already a few steps up on a fair few other cars. But god anything has to be quicker than a 2.slow...

Maybe when my financial positon changes again I might contemplate a different car or a supercharger! I'd be scraping the bottom of the barrel as is with a bora, let alone modifications for it or another car

                            >>>Also, does anyone here have or know of a modified bora? NA or turbo it doesn't matter I'd like to hear about it!

well different is always good - hence the reason for buying a golf - there arent that many gti ones on the road and not too many people know the golfs come turbo - hence leaving them behind hahaha.

even more so the beetles turbo - there is only a handful of them isnt there?

my mate had a vw polo on cans ( same concept as airbags) something different. was pretty mad!!
