was getting a coffee and on my way home when a guy pulls out from a side street and i hit him .... the result:

Car only has CTP no comprehensive (was low on cash when it had to be renewed), but he admitted fault and is with AAMI. Not sure how these things work, so he's going to make a claim and tell them what happened. Also have a police report. But i don't know if they'll write it off or repair it (was leaking a lot of oil or coolant, think the radiator got hit)... anyone else been in a crash recently ? What normally happens

    cheers

To be honest it will probably be written off due to the cost of repairs.
you could be lucky though as it is only hte front part (no pillar damage or chasis damage that is visible)

You need to get some quotes to repair it, then write a letter of demand and include the quotes. Send it to the party responsible, he will forward to his insurance company. His insurance will contact you letting you know how they want to play the game. The insurance company may want to have one of their assessors have a look at it before any work begins etc.

I see 2x front airbags deployed. Start looking for a new car mate.

Think with a hit like that you might want it written off anway...

yeah, both air bags deployed, gave me a 'friction burn' the paramedic called it (grazing on the arm etc), got some nasty whiplash too. Hit the other driver in his door and wheel arch, he hit his head but was OK... cops reckon both vehicles will be written off

Talk to your insurance company anyway, given you are not at fault they very well may help with the paperwork anyway... at least some will. In any case it's worth the phone call since they are far more likely to get a positive response than you.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

As above, but have to agree with the airbag statement, you cant use second hand parts to repair especially airbag pretty sure itll be a total unfortunately. The minute they go out in a car that age thats it.

Got to agree with the airbag comments - will generally be written off when they are deployed. Shame as it looks like a nice 4 motion.

I saw the final Bill and the whole front of the car was replaced mainly because the front support panel was broken New guards, Bonnet both headlights brackets broken , new grilles, the only thing that was left was the chassis and the number plate ,And I drove the vehicle away .

update: so i called AAMI and spoke to their settlements & recovery team. They say my version of events is different to the other guy's (even though he admitted it was his fault after the crash).... they're going to send me a diagram and explanation form or something. I seriously hope this isn't the beginning of a long dispute, I just want to be back on the road already

also started seeing an osteo for my neck pains. Is there any way I can get his insurance to cover these as well ?
