So I got back from a lovely 9 day working "holiday" in central Qld last night and what can I say but I love my car!

After driving a lovely mine equipped diesel rental 100 series Landcruiser for 9 days getting into a car that can accelerate and go around corners at speed was fantastic. It's like having a new car all over again.

I did nearly put the clutch pedal through the firewall and broke the gearshifter off due to the difference between the tank and the R though.

By the way what is it with Toyota. They can give you cruise control, chrome door handles and chrome rings around the dials but no freaking central locking at all!

It took a few and some filing to get the nutset in but it's in. I fitted it probably a little low to get the thing out easily if I dropped the seats, but honestly how often is that going to happen.
Now I just need to get the back seats back in.

Woo! HPA Short shifter installed and clutch pedal cables adjusted.
It's set for a 40% reduction in throw which has a much nice feel. Stock it almost has a two stage throw to get the gear to engage. Now whilst being a little more notchy the two stage is pretty much gone due to the shorter throw.
Without the cable adjustment gear selection was still as it should be however the effort required to move the gear knob into a gear was quite large. Following the ElsaWin steps with some help from the Dieselgeek install guide as well, I adjusted the cables and the shift now requires much less effort.
Still just waiting now for my swaybars to arrive...

So I finally got sick of having only 15 or so songs on a cd so I thought I would go and have a look around at different FM tuners.

Previously I had thought about getting a hard wired solution such as a Dension ICE or a DICE unit but at about $400 (last time I checked) I figured this wouldn't be worth it. I know the quality is better but with this type of solution but here in Brissie the frequencies aren't to cluttered so finding some clear space isn't too bad.

The main requirement I had was for something that would fit nicely in the MkIV centre console and not impede on the gear shifter.

In the end I went with a Belkin TuneBase FM. It's a nice little unit that has an awesome little cradle that fits perfectly in the area.

Audio quality wise, of course yes it's not as good as a dedicated solution but with the sound boosters in the tuner as well as the iPod settings and the stereo settings, it's pefectly fine for listening to my angry alternative/metal.

The unit has won some awards apparently and is a little pricey at around $140 but I'm extremely happy with results.

So she got another wash today. But as per usual it's going to storm again this arvo and apparently for the first half of the week as well. Typical but oh well...
