I agree! 30% isn't a bad loss at all in an R32. The power figure isn't important anyway. If it had that output and Honda-like torque, it'd be plain-old slow!!

It always makes me laugh how peak power is always what is posted up. I do the same myself, but at the end of the day, I'd much prefer have the torque - especially in a bigger car.

Hmm a 140kW figure was being thrown around the place. I wasn't quite expecting that much but I was hoping for a little more than what I did get.
Doing some interweb searching though it would seem that 1/3 power losses can be normal.
At the end of the day though I wouldn't want to get rid of the four wheel drive system at all. Having driven Dad's GTI which will put out an extra 6kW at the wheels than my car (Broady's car), I know how much it likes to smoke up the fronts. With the Haldex I can get on the power much earlier and the esp doesn't so much as flicker unless I'm really really flooring it.
      Cheers,

hmm, interesting read... i'd always thought the r32 was supposed to be around the 170 mark, but that obviously doesn't take into consideration transmission loss. not familiar with the awd setup at all but 1/3 seems like a pretty big drop! perhaps I will stick with my fwd gti lol

stock figures at crank for R32 is 177kw.. a bit more than the 110kw of the gti but the gti is much more easily tuneable.

and yeah, I'm planning to stick to my gti too.. until i get something faster than both

Yeah with the CAI, chip and a couple of extra hp from the flapper mod, that's only going to take you probably to around 200kW at the fly.
The only other option that isn't too bad price wise is a power pulley kit.
Other options include exhaust, headers, cams, a turbo or supercharger with intercooler but for all these mods you're looking at $$$ for the hardware, let alone installation.

Yeah I wouldn't either. You only have to look at the Mazda range. Mazda 3 and 6 MPS's have the same engine and basically the same output. The 6 is over 150kg heavier yet it is faster to 100 clicks than the 3 ( and of course around a track ). Looks like another win for AWD

Woo! Not a proper update but I had to head up to Noosa for work the last two days (up and down both days) and I managed to get 656.70km out for 61L. That means I got an overall fuel economy of 9.29L/100km for the two days!
I know most of you diesel guys are laughing at that and probably even most of you petrol guys but I'm excited. Overall my fuel economy since I got the car has now dropped down to 14.37L/100km so this was a pretty good run.
Must say though when the fuel light came on at the beginning of the gateway toll road and I still had around 40kms to drive I was getting a bit worried.
Even though the tank capacity is 62L I'd say I would've had a reasonable amount of fuel left in the fuel lines. Anyone know if there's a decent sized reserve tank in the golfs as well?

Long time no update. Not that there's anything to update but I thought I'd post up some pics from last weekend and a couple from my solo trip up Mt Tambourine and then out to the bay with the Mrs.
In other news the .:R is just about due for her first service whilst in my ownership. Will hopefully get the heated seats fixed and get her running 100% again. Nearly everything working properly is not my cup of tea.

From last weekend (these can also be found in the photos section of the forum):

                  From the drive today:
                  My ugly head driving.

The end of the day and a good drive.

Will post up again after servicing and hopefully some good reports about one of the local specialist servicing mechanics who has been recommended on here before and who I spoke to at the dyno day.

I love the colour mate, its great! There are 2 things i'd do to which will not cost you anything. Take the front license plate holder off, (the car looks so much better) and cut the aerial. I did the same on my car and i love it!

I like my whip antenna. I reckon they look pretty good. The stubby antennas are groovy too but you know.
The front license plate holder though I'm still not sure about. I'm still planning on doing Euro plates soonish and it fits pretty closely to the holder. Do you have a pic with the number plate on but with no holder for comparison? Also do you have to fill any holes or anything where the holder attaches too?

                          Trezzy baby

get some Europlates on that badboy!

And mount the Europlate on the Mounting plate..

i fixed my plates on by using M6 Riv Nuts in the mounting plate

and drilling 6mm holes in each corner of the europlates and then using M6 Stainless Cap Screws to fix it down.. it looks tidy.. and is easy to remove for when say you want to c&P the car etc..

Yep they are going to come after the next service I've decided. Thanks for the tips on how to mount them. I discovered last night that Al (quozl) has the combination I wanted on the propper Qld euro plates (2x2 letters and numbers).
I will end up going a 3x2 combination but on a euro style plate (see PPQ website). Unfortunately it will have to be white with black writing as they don't do the black with silver writing in euro sized plates.

black with silver writing looks stupid on anything other than black and white modern cars.. and or Older cars..
