Bypass Valve for Your CAI Kit

Ok guys I've been reading a few of the CAI Threads and it seems everyone is worried about the water in the engine thing, which is understandable. I too was worried till i did some research. There's a thing called a bypass valve most of the big manufacturers have these. i personally have an AEM one.



It's the grey foam thing near my MAF.

The way it works is that if your pod should suck up water the vacum would open up the rubber flaps on the bypass valve thus sucking in air from the engine bay till the water drops out of the Intake and normal operation can commense. The whole mechanics of it can be found here as well as an awesome test involving sumerging an entire pod filter in water.

K&N does something called a dry charger which is something that goes around the actual filter. I've been using the Bypass valve and a mate has been using the K&N dry charger and neither one of us has had any issues what so ever with regards to spluttering/ jerking or anything else out of the ordinary when it comes to driving in the wet or puddles.

i was thinking of getting one of these, but i live in Perth, and we dont see much rain and puddles here. I'd still like to get one, just to be safe and not having to think about it whenever its raining.
Im not sure if i can install it, i'd have to cut off a part of the intake pipe, and it was a pain in the a**e to install it. that K&N dry changer sounds interesting. Where could i find one?

hope that helps, make sure you check what size pipe you have as they come in 2.5, 2.75 and 3".

They recommend Cutting the pipe but i just stuck it b4 the MAF if u have a 2 Piece CAI u could put it between the pipes depending where they connect (hopefully not on a bend). The Dry Charger you can get from any K&N stockist but may need to be special ordered as they come with the Typhoon CAI Kit.
