  • MkIV 2.0lT

After realising that you can do more to a turbo, I want to upgrade my MKIV 2.0l. Can some of you guys please advise as to what would be the most suitable and cost effective turbo kit?
I'm looking at upgrading when I manage to save some money. Then again the plastic might have to get a workout.
    Cheers

Dont do it. Just sell the car and get a GTI. Better interior, brakes etc. And theres no aftermarket parts for a 2.0 Turbo. GTI is twin cam 20v where as yours is only single cam 8v. The cost will far outweigh the benefits.

I see what you mean, but I like the 2.0lt.
Is the 2.0lt the same as the jetta motor?
Plus, I'll lose if I sell the 2.0lt. I've already lowered it and put a 2'' inch
exhaust, i'll have to put the old parts back on.
        What about a supercharger?

As above. Just buy a car that was built for the purpose in the first place.

To turbo is going to cost you at least 5,000 $.

Plus brakes etc etc. You will lose a lot more money with mods than with a car that was purpose built.

Take the mods off and on-sell them.

hey man i had a 2 L before my gti... relised i couldnt work it wothout spending big bux...so i sold it and bought the gti...
i had a full stainless exhaust springs and wheels and an in-car entertainment system. i was able to move everything across except for the exhaust...

i couldnt be more happier with the gti...
so before you work it, think about how much you'll spend in the long run.

Rather buy the Mk4 GTi, or to stir a bit, get a Polo GTi, its a lot quicker than a Mk4 GTi. Weighs a lot less as well and has ESP as a bonus

But... if you really want to turbo the 2.0 8V here is a kit from the USA. The guy will ship to Australia.

You will spend more money on "turbo-ing" the 2.0l then by selling it and getting a factory turbo.

                Just not worth it.

if you're really keen you could get a wrecked mkv and swap the engine over and upgrade your suspension and brakes

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. I am in two minds, because one day there will be kids riding with me.
So I'll have to have a think about how much power I need. I think about
                    110-130kw should be enough.
The turbo kit on ebay is mad, and I'm thinking of slapping it on the plastic.
                    The missus will go sick.
I hope one day to come on a cruise soon with the Melbourne boys. I just have find some time off work.
Frankie, when I visit the restaurant again you have to show me your beast.
                    Cheers

Ah have a ride in a chipped GTI - 145kw will be perfect for you.

Turbo kit looks dodgy - Especially on the ECU tuning side of things. Engine won't handle much boost, you definently wouldnt get 130kw out of it.

there is allot more than just slapping the turbo on.. you are running a stock head, with a turbo.. don’t think you can run allot more than 7psi, with a stock computer, not to mention reliability, turbo’s, with stock internals, most of time = Trouble!

I strongly agree with the rest, get a GTi... its much better than a 2.Slow.

If anything read some of the guys from vortex that put turbo kits in there 2.0s they have alot of hard time and sometimes struggle, but they reckon well worth it. I know of one guy from Australia that will venture into turboing his 2.0 his hoping for 250bhp POWARR
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...

                            What about engine mods?
Cam, port & polish, that sort of stuff.
The thing is, I've always liked naturally aspirated cars, otherwise I would have bought a factory turboed car. Then again when I ride in a turbo I love the instant boost.
All I want to do is increase the accelaration and improve the torque from the lower rev range.

I can put my hand up & say im one of those 2L guys...that have done some little things that help me move along. But for alot of the above purposes I am not going for a turbo. I can tick off the following Cams, port work, Giac Chip, cold airflow & mid section of the exhaust cut out. With all that done I can say its been worth it so far! Its a matter of looking stock but not. Cam work really does make a difference well with all the extras. Goodluck! PM if you would like to know more.
