Now for a MKV, these blades are for the drivers side about 1.5 inches too short, I just stuck an offcut on the bottom side of the drivers wiper to compensate - others may need to find a longer blade.
Just thought I'd give this one a bump. Jimmy pointed out the other week what I've been to lazy to do for a while now and that's replace my wiper blades. So I went and did it today. It's funny that it's been less than a year since I did it last but the supposedly awesome blades I bought didn't even last that long. Oh well nice and smooth wiping for now at least.
Cheers,
Trent
blades are recommended to be changed every 6 months. aero's are only meant to last 20% longer than std, so under 8 months would be recommended change time i suppose?
I have just changed mine, but I bought Aunge type rubber refill.
What I noticed is difference at the top of the blade. VW refill has wide top, while Aunge has a narrow one. I hope they won't slip out.
And yes I believe VW are charging way too much for front and rear.
Plastic ends were a little bit difficult to take off but not much. While the shorter blade went on fine without any problems, longer one has given a lot resistance, probably because of it's length. It kept on slipping out numerous time... The further I went up , more she came out. But at the end I prevailed.
Haven't tested yet, just cleaned my car, but I will tomorrow morning when I wipe off dust collected overnight.
Just a heads up to be careful with the rubber aero arm of the blade. Constant sun exposure makes these dry, brittle and prone to splitting. I know both of mine were and had to be tossed. Good thing I had spares anyway.
Cheers,
Trent
For anyone out there trying to figure the most cost effective way to get a better look without having to fork out too much coin for an entire new arm/blade assembly from the UK then here's another option.
Basically I'm buying a 13" aero blade which fits the old style attachment. Its less than 1/2 the price of any other solution and should look good as well.
here's the link or look up "golf mk4 rear aero vu flatblade" in google.
I always just quote the rubbers at work, as i also think its unfair to charge near on $100 for wiper blades. And the chances of a customer agreeing to $24 worth of genuine rubbers is alot more likely then $100.
Some prices are OTT and wipers are definitly one of them.
if it's anything like kmart in brisbane then you won't find them there anymore... just a lot of cheap rubbish. super cheap auto should have what you need. if not then ebay is your friend I suppose
Following the replacement method described at the start of this thread, yesterday I succesfully replaced my wiper rubbers.
They have had some use since then and still no issues.
After trying several different stores/brands/sizes, which either didn't fit, or pulled out too easily, I finally cam across a set that has the right cross section. By eye, it is identical to the OEM rubber.
Probably not as good quality as the OEM part, but in a totally different price bracket.
