We didn't like the look of the restaurants round the b&b, so decided to "pop" down to Akaroa having heard there were some good places down there. I glanced at the map and saw some wiggly lines but didn't quite realize what we were in for! My GF is scared of heights, so even at a perfectly normal safe speed I was getting lots of "SLOW DOWN" directions in language I cant reprint here.

A day or two later, the night before catching the cross island ferry, we came across this piece of road out of Picton ...

    Google Maps

Even more wiggly than the Akaroa drive and my GF thought we were going to die, and that was only driving an auto ford focus rental at or *below* the speed limit I bet there's hundred of roads like that round the south island though. Makes everything over here (especially in Perth) look very very boring.
hahaha mate that's just cracks me up! I totally get that experience. Was driving through to akaroa with a mate of mine from work and he's a pretty tough guy. Omg haha he was silent and holding on to whatever he could find while we were flying through the corners. He only told me afterwards that he was close to touching cloth. Same thing happened when we went through arthurs pass.. anyway, he was used to driving 4x4 through terrain and was a bit taken away how a hatchback could go through corners at a bit of a higher pace.

yeah there are so many amazing roads along the south island it's not funny. It's a must for anyone to visit. Even if you just take it slow and enjoy the view. Have a fair few suggestions if you're ever back here.

Oh yeah, we came across a gravel rd at one stage, very funny to turn the esp of and push it a bit. That made his eye brows go up once the back end started dancing hehe

Glad to hear others have been smitten by this island as much as i have. Where else did you go?

Sweeeeeeeet! Ive never gone it in reverse. Always driving to greymouth via arthurs pass then back via Lewis pass. There are like at least a dussin good spots to stop along Ap for pics etc. Don't rush it to much even though it's tempting. Oh and btw cops r pretty bad once u come in to chch so keep it cool.
Drive over to akaroa once here and take the summit rd!! Go over the day and stsy there for lunch

Realised today when looking at the car in natural light that the silver tape i used to pimp the rear badge of course wasn't the right silver. :what:

Down to Wanaka for a couple of days with side trips to Arrowtown and Mt Cook (it was only a quick holiday sadly). The road to Arrowtown via Cardrona was pretty memorable too ... I was being thrown around in the back of a capervan for that one with a friend up front driving. I made it to the other end unscathed, but his wife was very green and skipped lunch. He got sent to the back of the bus for the drive back

Next time we definitely want to check out the west coast.

FWD vs AWD is the main difference I believe...
so as long as the TT is AWD/4mo, they SHOULD work... go to a few websites and cross reference part numbers between the 4mo golf, 4mo bora, r32 and awd tt would be my suggestion

                            I like!

more pics of the cupra lip on the normal valance please?
