Offer them way less than the sticker price - A car that distinctive is going to be very difficult to sell (They would have known that when they took the trade in).

Then once you pick it up - Ditch the bonnet and the rims.

Or better yet, spend similar money on an A4 Turbo Quattro or a Bora V6 4wd.

    Cheers,
    Dave

if you dont mind telling us im intested to know how much you are getting off the price on the window. Reason im asking is that i have recently purchased a 2002 v6 bora with 80,000k for under $1700 after falling in love with two others which i missed out on. It cost me another $450 to get everything back up to scratch (brake pads, front mounts, cv boot) The v6 has all the bells and whistles including 6 speed gear box, heated leather seats, sunroof, etc, etc. I have since then put in some bilstein coilovers (approx $2700) and a kenwood 2 din cd/dvd with a garmin touchscreen sat nav component (approx $2000) So now im up to about 22k and am looking at some dish rims which would be under 3k with tyres. The reason im saying this is that there are heaps of boras out there for sale and you can pick up a stock car with a great service and driving history (luckily oldies and chicks love vw's) and you wont have to pay for a new bonnet and disposal costs for those awful rims hehe.. sorry. but on the plus side you can flog off the intercooler for a few bucks..

Also regarding the 5 year warranty it seems like you believe that you will be offered a 5 year warranty with the car, please excuse me if i have misunderstood.. I think what they mean is that the car had a 5 year warranty when sold new therefore you car might still be covered under that new car warranty but being a 2002 i wouldnt expect much of that left. Otherwise secend hand car dealers have to offer a mandatory 3 month warranty with their cars and that is usually all that they will offer. I hope that im wrong but please check this out and if i misunderstood you post ignore this whole paragraph

Anyway just my 2 cents worth, we can give you advice but in the end its going to be your dollars spent so good luck either way you go and keep us posted, i would love to take you for a spin in my car before you make a decision but i dont think you are in melbourne, are you?

          UPDATE!!!!!!

Yes the pic posted is the Bora.

And on this day i made the deal official and picked it up. I got the car for $23,000. That includes a 5 yr warrenty from today. It covers and problem with the car, in that event i simply call up and send it to any licenced mechanic, which includes any Volkswagen service centre. The warrenty will cover all parts and labour

The car drives great and im happy with it. I agree with you fellow dubbers that the bonet scoop does the car no favours. Will eventually have it removed.

Will post some pics up soon

WISH ME LUCK with my new Bora which is spending its 1st night relaxin in my garage.

Congratulations and good luck with it. Wow the 5 year warranty has just totally blown me away. There should be more secondhand car dealers out there offering the same thing as it really allows you to buy a car with total confidence knowing that if any problems may arise you are totally covered. Do you know if the warranty is offered by the actual dealer that you purchased at or an independent provider? Perhaps as they know that the car has had $40k spent on it they are confident that nothing could possibly go wrong. Which brings me to my other question, I think that I'm speaking for most of us when I ask that when you have had a chance to sort through those receipts that you could perhaps give us a little update on what your beast has had done to it, I’d say all of us here are salivating at the thought of $40k being thrown into an mk4.

P.S. I have recently heard some disturbing whispers floating around this forum so I think it only fair to give a fellow bora owner the heads up.. rumor is that people have been getting banned for not posting their pics promptly enough..

Congrats - Watch out on those warranties though - They don't cover all parts and there is usually an excess involved. Ontop of a clause that says "you must get it serviced by us every 10,000kms"

Not worth the paper they're written on.

I have an 02 Bora V64motion and I love every second of it , as long as you cover your bases with the warranty and services have been done thru decent place I say go for it, thats fairly average k's these days anyway. Like everyone else I am curious what $40k receipts are for? even 5 years worth of servicing, maintenance and a heap of mods wouldn't come to that would it?

What the hell, just go for it.....

This is true, but they seem to come up with the goods when needed.
