  • Expert Advice Needed

    Hey guys

Saw a car that im seriously thinking of buying. Already left a deposit just need some advice.

Its a 2002 VW Bora, fully worked Ottenger chipped, Ottenger Bodykit, front mount intercooler, air filter, leather interior, full sound system-CD/DVD Player & 20inch chrome rims. Looks sick.

Hooked up a price im happy with + 5 year full warrenty and road side assistance.

Only thing im concerned about is the amount of Kms. Clock reads 101,463 kms. Ive never looked into a modern VW as ive always owned oldie ones. Do you guys reckon its a decent amount of kms for a car thats only 5 yrs old?

Also has a full service history and $40,000 worth of reciepts.

Any actions I should take before in take the plunge?

Well from my experince a car on average can do between 20000km to 30000km a year. and if you look at rebook it will give you a rough idea. Redbook 2002 Bora

      $40,000 in receipts?!

What could possibly add up to 40thou?!

100,000kms isn't that much provided its been serviced/taken care of, these things last forever.

Is this the one in the McGrath dealer? I keep driving past a very nice looking red Bora there.

You make sure that the warranty covers all of the modifications that have been done. $40K receipts, is another car!

The one at liverpool was looked at by myself yesterday. that one has 12,000kms and is a 04 model, ottenger bodykit and exact same colour as the one im after. Pretty standard through.

Im pretty sure that the warrenty covers all mods.

Everyone sell high mileage car will say it is highway kms how can you proof ? anyway 100K in 5 years is average usage.

Don't make any assumption in warranty cos these dealer are very tricky. Read all the terms and conditions.

Will definatly check the warrently details in depth.

I understand that 100,000kms for a VW is nothing, but just worried as this a big commitiment for me and i dont want a car that will be a constant headache and un relaible

vw are pretty good in terms of reliabiliy, i'd probably check to see if the main serivice areas have been looked after. i.e cam belt, water pump... coz if not expect to change it soon after you buy it.

                              sounds good though
