Hey guys I've noticed recently when driving at night that my a/c controls are not backlit.... Is this normal? And also my cigarette lighter thing is broken, could this have anything to do with it if they should light up?
Hi there, the fuse for the cigarette lighter also covers the backlighting for the A/C controls. The fuse has probably blown, and will require replacing.

just the a/c button? Or all the dials and fan controls?
the light out on the ac controls could just be the globe. If u have the older manual controls like me. Itd behind the fan speed control.
From memory you turn it to vertical and can pull the whole switch out, but dont quote me on that!

The fuse panel is on the end of the dashboard inside the drivers door. You have to pop off the panel cover, pry off using the car key in the slot.
There is a card showing a map of the fuses. The map is a mirror of the panel and can be confusing.
Fuse 41 15Amp is the cigarette lighter. Colour code for 15 amp is BLUE.
Fuse 27 for the rear wiper is 15Amp also, you could use that to check.
Don't use the fuel pump, fuse 28, you don't want to blow that and get stuck.

Not sure when they changed over, but or old 2004 Golf had LED illumination. Nearly cried when I was quoted $130 (trade) for a new control panel to get the lights working again.

dont ever worry about going out and checking the manual or walking out to the car on a cold rainy day to check things! Just ask JustCruisin!
Turns out that it only fixed the cigarette lighter and the fan control etc still don't light up will have to see how much it costs and decide if it's worth it (although hopefully my warranty will cover it )
Just to make sure, I'll ask the obvious.
Do you only expect the climatronic to light up when the headlights are on ?
I've got a 2.0 with the rotating knobs and stuff to adjust the air con temp. etc and was wondering if this had lights because I've noticed at night that's it's almost impossible to find this to turn on my demister and adjust the temperature etc. Is this part backlit (normally)
