did i miss something?? or are you refering to me trying the cheaper option cable? i made alot of exceptions buying the beetle for my wife, i can accept the sub par power and cornering abilty, its the safety concerns that stem from it randomly cutting out mid way through intersectons that bother me, i joined this forum to try to get help from people with experience, i realize that some of you have suggested i contact jmac. if the circumstances were different i probably would have already driven the 10 mins to see him. but things have happend and i no longer feel he can give the services i require.

Mate the car probably has a few little niggles that need an expert to diagnose - after they get sorted and the car is maintained properly - I'm sure you will love it.

      Try Laurence at German Autos

      Geebung QLD 4034, Australia

Not really near Ipswich but I can't think of a better place to take it to for a no bull**** repair.
      MK4 GTI - Sold
      MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold

It's hard to say when you've not really given us much history and all we really have to judge your situation on is the fact that you've refused to listen to good advice several times now about that cable. That said, I'm still guessing you're not the original owner, and thus aren't to blame for the car's apparent poor condition.

The other thing I'm saying is that it's more likely the previous owner didn't take care of the vehicle and that's the result of the condition it's in, rather than it being some terrible build quality issue - sure, there are lemon cars sometimes, and maybe you were unlucky enough to get a Friday afternoon special, but as a general rule, well looked after VWs don't just crap themselves out in ways like you're describing.

Without knowing (or wanting to know!) the reasons for not going to jmac, fair enough, we all have our preferences.

Sorry everyone for cracking a **** but the car pissed me off hard core over the last few weeks. Nothing seams to work to fix it.

Understood - cars do that occasionally. If you were in Sydney, I'd gladly run VAGCOM over your car to see what we could see!

For what it's worth, Jmac's very highly thought of by most Brisbane members - I'm sure if you were willing to give him another go, he'd make sure he did his best to help (as he would anyway). I've always found him to be honest and up front about things.

no, im still chasing the other problems to be sure they arent affecting it. there is some major wiring issues as with all beetles but yer deffinately not right somewhere. things that dont work - cruise control, heater seats, air con, out side temp guage, oil light, one brake light works occasionally, dump valve has issues.

A proper VAG-COM scan will help to indicate where a lot of these issues likely lie. That and an experienced VW mechanic...
