  • Question about legality and looks of Led taillights

    Hey,

I was thinking about getting some smoked LED taillights for my bora. I was wondering what people think of it if it would look ricey or not trying to keep it oem as possible. My judgments a bit cloudy at the moment

Other thing is how legal are these. I know there's no problem with LED taillights in general but these won't have been ADR complianced. It states that they are for offroad or display use only but I asked them and its because they are German and they haven't been compliance in America but are totally legal.

    Cheers.

I'd get them but make sure that it won't throw a fault code due to the LED's drawing less power.
Also, be aware that the US have their rear foglight ont eh other side so that may mean your rear foglight (if you have one) won't work.

I must admit I shuddered a little when I read led tail lights, but they actually look pretty good. Very similar to the Hellas ones. I reckon get them. I had tail lights from america and they bolted straight in when I had the 4mo. Don't think mine had a fog light like the golf

Mine has fog lights on both sides. Only needed to place a bulb in to get both sides working. Not sure if the LED's are on both sides for fog will have to ask but if not i could get a wiring kit. It looks as if the housing just plugs into the light bulb sockets anyway.

Probably not legal, but unlikely you'd have an issue with them now that a lot of factory cars come with them.

As long as they have reflectors built into the lenses or you have reflectors stuck on your bumper somewhere, then they should be legal.

they look good, and well priced.

i wouldn't count on them being 'legal'. they aren't even legal in the US!

AFAIK ther ADR's talk abotu height, position, colour and reflective thingies but I didn't think they mentioned anything else. So long as they are red, white and orange I don't know why there would be issues.

Of course I never said that our laws make sense so I could be wrong.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

As I said I asked Ecs about it and they said the only reason they arnt legal is because fk haven't been bothered to get it compliance but they are legal in Germany and as far as they know they are totally legal.

                    Haha so true.

I mean i think they would be fine as they don't look that illegal and all I would have to do it keep the stock lights incase i have to go through the pits

Now the next thing i was thinking off is since they are illegal what happens in an accident? Would insurance company's try and claim that they could have contributed to it or something?

only if they can prove they caused the accident (eg they werent functional and someone ran you up the rear).

I've got those exact make LED rear lights for my Golf. Mine isn't smoked and on black, it looks really bad. I've been wanting to smoke them, and I can't put my originals back on because I've sold them -_-

Anyway, the LED's give it a really awesome stance from behind. As for legality, I don't really see many issues. Although after I installed mine, for a week, my indicator lights were solid and wouldn't flash. The issue seemed to subside by itself.

                          Definitely buy em !
