Nah , it will work fine without one . You can swap your immobiliser over from one ecu to the other

With the wheels you have your speedo is gonna be so far out it wont matter . When I was doing an indicated 240 in the Golf R it was only 220 actual !
Besides most gps have an indicated speed on them anyway

Is there a way to reprogram the speedo to different tyres? Will be looking for some lightweight 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 for daily wheels.

AFAIK speedos can be recalibrated to suit wheels outside of the factory parameters yeah, but I'm not sure who would do such a thing and how much hassle is involved..

That's pretty standard. Speedos can read low by as much as 10% and still pass ADR requirements.

I found switching from 225/45R127 to 235/45R17 wheels actually made my speedo much more accurate.

Seb - any issues with trying to run a Mk5 engine off a Mk4 ECU? Or will you run it off a Mk5 ECU (in which case, how do you deal with the fact that the car isn't CANBUS)?
              Nothing to see here...

The MkV R32 block is identical to MkIV. Will be running all mkiv ancillaries, so there won't be any dramas.
