    Bora.

Will hold it's value better and has more appeal as it stands out from the rest of the cars.

It is also the last model so it has extra value.

After test driving my v5 Bora and a 2004 GTI I decided on the Bora as it just felt like it had more power.....different power to the GTI really.

If you want to tune something then GTI is the better option over the v5 - personally I'd prefer the 4mo vs GTI though, but I am biased to the Bora

Stock the GTI accelerates faster (just), but it has a lower top speed - so technically it doesnt go faster

Haha, fair enough, I was a little light on the technical details.

To the OP, in all seriousness, I wouldn't change over unless you're planning to tune up the GTI and it's not going to cost you much.

Get the GTI, and put the Bora front end on it...Direct bolt up too.

Its also one of the most difficult to work on and worst designed engines on the planet, very un-vw like if you ask me. Does sound great though

Surely it's not that much different to a VR6 as the V5 was derived from the VR6?

Its got a cylinder lopped off, all the more reason to stick with the GTI. Especially if you want to do at least part of the work yourself.
